This was initially a template modification i created, i decided to make things much easier for people to compile it all into this product,

What is Social Networking in Postbit & Profile:

Well the name pretty much gives it away! This mod will add social networking icons for 10 social websites into both the vertical and horizontal postbit and now in a users profile with features like:
Option to turn Modification on/off.
Option to enable icons with or without a block.
Option to turn profile block on/off.
Option on location of profile block.
2x Icon sets 16x16 and 24x24.
Mouseover and Mouseout animation.
etc.-INSTALLATION-

-STEP 1-
Goto admincp -> User Profile Fields -> Add new User Profile Field and add the following fields:

Profile Field Type - Single-Line Text Box
Title - Twitter
Description - Add a link to your Twitter profile.
Field Searchable on Members List - NO
Show on Members List - NO

Profile Field Type - Single-Line Text Box
Title - Facebook
Description - Add a link to your Facebook profile.
Field Searchable on Members List - NO
Show on Members List - NO

Profile Field Type - Single-Line Text Box
Title - Google+
Description - Add a link to your Google+ profile.
Field Searchable on Members List - NO
Show on Members List - NO

Field Searchable on Members List - NO

Once you have created the profiled fields, take a note of the field numbers.

Note: If you do not want to use all of these websites then just add the fields of the websites that you do want to use.

-STEP 2-
Download the attached zip file, extract the files, open the UPLOAD folder and choose which icon set you wish to use, the options are 16x16 or 24x24 icons. Once you have decided, FTP the images folder to the root of your forums.

-Step 3-
Goto admincp -> Plugins & Products -> Manage Products -> Add/Import Product and upload the install file (product-socialpostbit.xml).

-Step 4-
Goto admincp -> Options -> Social Networking in Postbit. Now you must decide how you want to configure the mod, you can see examples of with/without block in the screenshots below. Next all you need to do is input all of the relevant profile field numbers and that's it! If you do not wish to use some of the websites included just leave the setting blank or set to 0.

Yes mate, just make sure you select the relevant template (postbit or postbit_legacy) and then select revert so you do not end up with duplicates. Or if you have other modifications in your postbit do not revert, instead go in and manually remove the code from my previous mod.

Just to confirm upload locations .... ;)

You want your uploaded folders to be placed in the root of the forum, instead of within the /images folder? :confused:

A few things as compared to the old way ...

1. Any chance of getting a C/R linefeed at the start of the box? It appears right under our link to a member's classifieds and it's really difficult to click on that with your box up so close. Also, cosmetically, it appears crowded.

2. Are the icons supposed to be stacked on top of each other like that within the box? In the old method, the icons were side by side, with and without the box? :confused:

3. Is there any place we can control the color of the background for your box? It's a little dark for us...

1 - open the template postbit_social and edit the following line:

Change margin-top:5px; to what you want it to be.

2 - There is a linebreak in after myspace in the same template as above, this is based on having the 10 icons, if you are only using those 2 in the screenshots search for and remove <br />

3 - It uses the forum styles colour scheme mate.

For clarity, are you saying that with 3 or more icons, the mod will start lining them up side-by-side, but with only two, they will always appear stacked under each other? :confused:

Just my opinion, but I think that's a waste of space for two? Is it difficult to always have then start lining up side by side, regardless of how many folks use?

By the way, we currently have 6 sites for use in out profiles...

Like i said mate, with 10 icons in total it has to go onto a second line as it looks terrible. If you want to remove the line break and have them all on 1 line go into the template postbit_social find <br /> and remove it.

Well I intended on releasing it today but there is a fault in my area so I have no broadband, using my phone just now. As soon as my bb is back up I'll be releasing it.

They have to input the Url for their accounts mate.

I notice if I turn the block OFF, that the icons return to the stacked look, as well as the top margin increase I did with the patch you gave me in postbit_social disappears. If I turn the block ON, they patches I've used seem to work again. :confused:

Is there a different template (or some other place) I can change the top margin and also delete the <br/> to make the two appearances the same, whether the block is on or off?

Patched postbit_social1 so the icons now appear side-by-side with 2 and the margin is an extra 10pts making it 20pts.

We are already using fields that each member inputs this info into now. It would be confusing for them to do both.

I dont know if I did this wrong but, I created the profile field, then put in my facebook url "jasonpack" and when I click the icon in my postbit, it goes to some non-existent location on my site.

EDIT: Just tried the youtube icon, same sort of error :(

EDIT 2: It is just an mistake in the url inside the .xml file,
It seems you left the "http://" out of every url but facebook, google+, and myspace.. I add it in front of the youtube url and it works great.

I corrected it, This should work. Probably want to test it on your copy though.

Could you post your postbit template please mate as i'm assuming it has been modified, as the plugins use template hooks, it would depend on your template layout.

With regards to the templates to remove the line break it is postbit_social, find and remove <br />

Awesome, and am stunned that vBulletin has not placed more importance on the user profile page. IE: WYSIWYG for the profile editor that would allow a more robust profile delivery.

I must be a complete idiot. :o I am new to vBulletin, and am running 4.1.7. The forums are currently turned off until I get the hang of the software and customize the look of the place.

Anyway, I followed your directions to a T except for the following:

I changed the name of the "images" folder to "images2" since there was already an images folder in the root of my forums and I did not want to overwrite that folder when prompted by my ftp client.

Other than that, everything was done the same. The fields show up to enter under my profile settings, but, when I link my FB and Twitter accounts (the only ones I want to use), and save changes, nothing shows up under my name within messages on the forums.

I've uninstalled the plug-in and deleted everything, starting from scratch 3 times and nothing. :confused:

Did that, still nothing showing up when I save my profile after entering in the fields. I'm using direct links to my twitter and facebook profiles as instructed.

I noticed that when I go into Admin CP>Plugins & Products>Manage products I can edit the Social Networking plugin. When I click on Edit, there is an Add New Product Dependancy field and a Add New Install/Uninstall Code. The fields in these categories are left blank by default. Should I be inputting something into these areas? :confused: There is nothing in the installation instructions about doing so.

The directions seem pretty straightforward and I'm following them word for word so I really don't know what the problem is....other than the fact that I'm a complete newb to all of this. :o

Why are the images not working - If you are not placing them in the correct directory then it will not work. Don't change it to images2, just upload, it will not overwrite, it will merge the folders. Take a backup of your images folder if you are worried.

Goto admincp -> User Profile Fields -> Add new User Profile Field and add the following fields:

Profile Field Type - Single-Line Text Box
Title - Twitter
Description - Add a link to your Twitter profile.
Field Searchable on Members List - NO

Title - Facebook
Description - Add a link to your Facebook profile.

I only put these 4 in because that is all I want, for now.

Step 2 - Downloaded zip file, extracted, selected 16x16 option and uploaded it to forums root. Screenshot shows the folder sitting in the images folder.

Step 3 - Went to admincp -> Plugins & Products -> Manage Products -> Add/Import Product and upload the install file (product-socialpostbit.xml). I did this via the browse computer option, not the "import XML file from your server" option.

Step 4 - Went to admincp -> Options -> [Boydy]Social Networking in Postbit. Screenshot depicts how I filled out the fields. 5 for Twitter, 6 for Facebook, 7 for Google+, all other fields were 0, except for YouTube which is 8 (screen wasn't big enough to fit it on the screenshot). Clicked Save, said settings saved successfully.

Step 5 - Screenshot shows the user profile fields were successful.

Step 6 - Filled those in correctly (only using Twitter/Facebook), others left blank. Saved changes to profile successfully.

Step 7 - Go back to forums and check out a thread, nothing shows up.

Like i said mate, with 10 icons in total it has to go onto a second line as it looks terrible. If you want to remove the line break and have them all on 1 line go into the template postbit_social find <br /> and remove it.

Now that I've finally got it installed...lol...one last question I think.

Is the above quote what I need to do to get them all in one line since I am only allowing 4 new fields? (Twitter, FB, Google+, and Youtube) I wouldn't need 2 lines for all 10 icons since I'm only using 4, right?

The only other thing I can think of is that there is an error in the profile fields that you have,

double check that please, go to the profile manager, and note down the numbers for example, see which field it says next to Twitter

If it says Field 11 (for example) then ensure that field 11 is the value set for Twitter

Dude, you need to enter the Field# not the display order

so for Twitter, the value should be 19, Facecbook = 20, Google + =21 and so forth

I can confirm this is happening to me too. Some where in the code, the icons must be set to display in a certain order. I have twitter and facebook on the top line, and youtube on the bottom line.

However, I agree with everyone, that hopefully there is a way to have them all in 1 line, except when necessary to have 2 lines.

I can confirm that removing the <br /> from the postbit_social1 template file, allows the icons to stay on 1 line (depending on how many your using of course.

Then I changed my profile Twitter field from the full URL which was http://twitter.com/BB_Matrix to >>> only >> BB_Matrix

But when I click on the link now after I refresh the page in one of the threads, this is where it takes me to:

you have to go to the postbit_social1

then look for Twitter

then look for where you see the URL

and remove the extra http

then save and reload :)

Actually it had something to do with the profile field, I searched and searched last night and out of a whim I created a new profile field for twitter and deleted the old one. Worked fine after that.

Hello, unfortunately I had to see this mod is not supported anymore :(.

I updated my test forum from vB 4.1.9 to 4.1.10. Before the update everything was working like I wanted (screenshot 419).

However after the update the position in postbit_legacy is now like in screenshot 4110.

I would like to have it back like it was before but I don't get it. Can anybody help me and tell me how to get it back into the position right above the IM icons and below the blog bit again?

Well my postbit is totally customized,and adding this mod it just fell straight in.//usually you can only change what the author allows you to do..A little like ioncube encryption but you dont need a rule for that.

Tbh., PayPal ain't really a social media, it's a virtual payment gateway, plus there is already a mod, which includes a PayPal donation.

Anyhow, I'd wonder, how would be the most effective way to edit the "My Social Networking" headline area. In normal profile, it looks all right, but in the postbit? It is just way too much intrusive for my taste, e.g. especially the bold font.

step no. 1 - 2 ain't really affecting the functionality of this mod, weird, since the coder forgot to mention that.

Step no. 1 is there to just explain you to create as many "User Profile Fields" as you need. This mod supports 10 social media, so that's why the programmer tells us to create 10 user fields, but that's fairly not necessary, you can go by just with one.

Step no. 2 is there to just upload some icons, if you skip it, mod will still work, but there will be most likely [x] instead of those icons.

Step no. 3 is the most crucial one, since you're uploading the .XML, which is basically the core element for this mod.

What the creator also forgot to mention was that when you're in options for this mod, you need to paste the "User Profile Fields" ID to this mod or else - use the ID for the particular user profile field, so the mod would know, which URL it should link to after click.

Xfire Single-Line Text Box - Editable - field8 - [Edit] [Delete]

That's something, you will see in your ACP. Now, go back to the mod options and write "8" to your desired profile field. It should work.

The error message is weird, I've never encountered with it, but for me, it looks like you just misplaced some profile field IDs.

Also, what vBulletin version you're running?

Fantastic mod, works great on 4.2.0 pl3. I did have to remove the 3 <br /> entries from the XML file and shrink down the size of the icons before uploading but all is good now.

You can choose in ACP which service you want to enable for everyone. If the user leaves any of the fields blank (default) in their user settings, the icon will not be displayed in their posts.

Nevermind, I found the problem. I misunderstood the directions. It says to upload the images to the root (for me, "index") of your forums. I did that and it did not work. I looked at the coding and the whole folder "postbit_social" had to be uploaded into the index>images folder, so it located to index>images>postbit_social for the images. You may want to make your instructions more clear- either way I hope me posting will clear that up for anyone who has a problem getting the images to show up as well.

not exactly what it refers to...but I replaced all the references to "My Space" with 'Gamebattles' so you could add them on their. And had no issues. Also updating all the links directing to mySpace.com of course. so perhaps just copying a set from another date set will also work too?

I'm stuck on this too. It seems without this additional fields won't work. The edited version to include Pinterest, Instagram, and Soundcloud does not work becuase the codes were not added for those extra add-ons. I'm trying to add Instagram, Pinterest, Etsy, and deviantART. I've gotten all the other coding changed, but the date numbers are a complete mystery. I tried putting in all the other additional coding and just using the same number as Vimeo.. didn't work. I tried putting in different numbers.. didn't work. Seems like it's one icon/field per number too. Googling hasn't turned up anything yet :/ Going to try and look into this.. will post if I find anything.

Anyone figure out how to make Pinterest show up in the posts? It shows in the profile page but not in the posts. I've gone over all the code and it looks like its right to me, so I'm stumped. Anyone figure this out?
