how to get first IMG in the post and display

Hi,
I was wondering if there is a code that checks first IMG in the post and display it inline with thread title.

Example,

a list of latest threads with inline thumbnails of the first IMG in the post

<img> abcd efg
<img> xyz
<img> gggg

Like this? See attachment. I blew out my icons doing some editing. The mod didn't do that.

To get pics in threads that are already there just click edit on the first post and add a period. Then save. Then go back and removed the periond. It has to see an edit on the first thread to nab the pic to make a thumb. Otherwise when you post a pic or series of pics in the first post it will make a thumb out of the first image it finds and show it next to the title.
