How to display attachment image preview thumbnail in front of thread

Hi,

I would like to ask has anyone came across a way to display an attachment image preview as a thumbnail in front of selected thread titles?

An example can be seen on this forum:

They have a thumbnail image showing at the beginning of every thread in that forum category. Would appreciate any advise, suggestions or directions on getting this. Thank you!
