Thread prefix - without the prefix?

The members dislike seeing it on the forum list, and dislike it showing up in RSS feeds.

Can they be moved somewhere else more discrete?

Obviously the term prefix has its meaning ('before') but can I cheat by still using it but putting it elsewhere?

Any ideas?

Some VB forum use 'category icons' but they are messy looking and the in-line moderation of prefixes is dynamite IMHO.

I want the ability to sort threads by 'category'

I'm sure you can edit the threadbit template to move them behind the thread title instead of in front. Not really sure how they affect RSS feeds, never used prefixes with them.
