View Full Version : How to make topics static

Is there a way to make all forum topics static, i.e. to not be moved to the top of the message board every time they receive a new post?
The reason I'm asking is that I'm running a downloads site, and would like the new downloads to always be shown at the top. At the moment, whenever a topic receives a new post, it takes that topic to the top, even if it's months old.
Thanks anyone :)

Edit forum in question in admincp.
Refer to attached image.
Default Sort Field: Thread Start Time
Default Sort Order: Descending

But changing the default sort order wouldn't prevent people from setting their own sort order. And you would have to run a query to force all existing users to it (and I bet they wouldn't be happy about it).
I used a mod in vb3 to "kill" a topic so it wouldn't rise to the top. We haven't needed it in vb4 yet and now I can't find it. But I wonder if it could be the basis for "killing" all topics in a forum.
I dunno though. May just be better to put a sticky in the forum explaining to people how to set it up so they see it this way, if they want to.
