View Full Version : Replacing Default Smilies

Hi there,

I was hoping to remove vBulletin's default smilies and replace them with my own. I figured it'd be super easy - go into the smilies manager, add the new ones, delete the old ones.

But it's turning out that it's not that easy at all.

I had to re-add the default smilies because all the links on the side of the posts would then be broken. But now that they're re-added, I'm still having issues.

1. The smilies aren't fully loading at the side. I'm assuming this is because I replaced the default face with the new (gif) face.

2. Using the new faces doesn't work in posts. ie. The :x face doesn't load the smiley. :) loads the default smilie, despite that being the command for the new smilie (instead it loads the default :) face from the Generic Smilies, when the command for that is to be

I have two smiley categories: Smilies for the new ones I want to be the default, and Generic Smilies for the ones that vBulletin came with.

Ideally what I want to happen is to get rid of the vBulletin defaults altogether and replace it with the new smilies, allowing for people to click the smilies at the side of the post.

I hope this makes sense. Screenshots for demonstration. Any help will be appreciated!

If you wanted to replace the smilies, you would have done better to just name them the exact same thing that is already in the smilies directory and just upload them over the old ones. Have you tried that?

I did, but I'm assuming there may be a trouble with them being .gif instead of .png? Though I could try again if you don't think there should be an issue.

Don't forget you can just click the Edit button under the smilie and just change the file name.
