[RELEASE] HearMe Voice Chat Hack

Introducing my first hack for vbulletin:

Features

This hack checks to see if forum users are cookied. If the user isn't cookied, it prompts the user to enter their username and password. Upon logging in, the user is taken to the hearme voice chat and their username in the chat is their username on the forum. This hack also takes advantage of the use of templates which makes the chat match the rest of your forum :)

All of the files in the .zip file are in .php format and have been tested in version 1.1.2 but should be compatible with most versions.

also rangersfan on one of my sites i put in the $usersicon in the postbit and the avatar isn't showing up in the post do you have any ideas what's wrong? i know i did it correctly because it works on another forum w/ same code but on this other site i deleted teh templates for some stupid reason and teh update.php won't work, so maybe that's the problem.. can you offer any solutions?

Tomorrow I will make you an update.php that will delete all the templates and database modifications and re-install them, ok?

This is awesome - just one question though - how do you go about getting the HearMe application? Is it remotely hosted, or do you have to set up a local a chat server? I visited their site, but didn't see any way to go about downloading or purchasing or anything.

Caveat - I set this chat up and right away I started getting msgs from users saying "It says I need Windows and I have a Mac"

So I took it down...

it requires windows? Well blame it on hearme not me :) I just love this hack because my forum members we play games against eachother and b4 the matches we always setup the game passwords and stuff, and then give scores and stuff afterwards. It's really popular among my members. However, using my script you can do any kind of hack you'd like for a page to be password protected :)))) just change the [chat_hack] template and its done.. you can make it a private image collection for all your members or whatever ya want..

Well checking if $bbusername and $bbuserid are set (in the call to global.php) is something all hacks do so I don't know if you can call that in itself a "hack".

well this thingy i did is very easy I know that and very simple, I dunno just if anyone else wants it i just put it here..

I got this hack a while ago, you can see it in action on my forums, i'll go there right now. I had it e-mailed to me by iownnikki. What it allows the members to is use their real voice while chatting with other forum members. But you must have a microphone installed on your computer, for the voice chat to work, otherwise you can type in messages. All this is done in real time.

BTW if try to talk on a computer with out a microfone, you will never be able to setup this hack, so don't worry :D

Another note, hear me is not only a voice chat, most of the times I don't use the voice at all, I type, because it's much faster than a web based chat, like phpmychat!

I meant where is the info for the programing that is being used for this hack. IE where do you get the chat applet etc. And how do you make your room, and how can you admin your room etc..

wow its been a long time since i've been here, sorry.. well unfortunately this chat has no admin features and for some reason it seems as if http://www.hearme.com has taken off the portion of there site where they give you info on how to modify the chat and stuff.. but its the best chat program i've found around the net.. if anyone knows of another one, it's as easy as 1-2-3 to make a different chat page... I'd love to have this hack for my boards- I used the UBB version before I upgraded. I tried the download link, but it doesn't work! Does anyone have this hack still? I'd love to get my hands on it!

I use digichat and I love it - I just wish I knew how to integrate the message board database in with it... if anyone wants to check out the chat, it's great and all my users love it accept they wnat password protected names which has to be a database tie in - http://www.hole.com/chat .. anyone want to make a hack???!!!

I'm very gratefull for this hack and the wonderful Hear Me Chat.
- Testing it I discovered that, if the member is not loggen in, and insert username & password in the error_nopermission template, he finally start chatting, but in a new chat only for him, besides others people are talking in another cat.
I realized this, working with 2 PC.
I solved this making a template that sends the member to loggin in the index page, so it works.
- A question: why, after about 10 minutes that a member is in the chatroom he desappears from the loggedinusers in the index page? Is there a way to fix this?

Well it looks like you guys are going to have to find another chat room to integrate with your board..

I just moved from a UBB to VB (useing 75gb b/w per month - generating over 1,000 new members per week not what you'd call an unpopular or badly designed forum) - I love the changes but hate the hack support - perhaps we should setup a vbhackers.com site - vbulletin.org don't seem to be much help either - everyone seems to be waiting for v2.0 before implementing any hacks - wheres the fun in that? From what i've been reading waiting for v2.0 is like waiting for a new version of a m$ product i.e. don't hold your breath.

Any hacks that are emailed to me i'll host them on our perm server - just to help you guys out

Raptor, it helps if you read the thread. I was able to download it from a link here and find out that it doesn't serve any purpose since THE SERVICE WAS DISCONTINUED!

If you don't like the hacks then maybe you should create your own hacks. I am so sorry that we spend our time working on v2.0 instead of making hacks all of the time as we did 3 months ago.

dude, i'm not ripping - I too am looking forward to v2

and I do write my own hacks and implemented many and helped in the development of many with ubb

but if the vb community needs to grow then support has to be given to the hacks as well as the main product because to be honest, its the intergration and customization that makes the product "saleable" - I have no problem in hosting hacks for users if the files keep getting removed

i'm new to vb - I was a die hard ubb nut but of course saw the error of my ways :)

Is there any way to beta v2 for you guys ?

Dude, I run the biggest console modification website in the world, we just developed the first US PS2 mod - i'm not an idiot - i came here becuse I thought I could get some simple help as everyone seems to speak highly of use guys - why is it so hard to send a small file ?

Link is not dead. It's not 404, and if you look at this page it even says its a temporary thing: http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/geo/geo-08.html . It worked an hour ago, but I didn't download it - when the download windown came up, I just cancelled it.

Some people have said that they had problems with being in a room on their own

well I noticed that a line of code was missing which solved the prblem on our server

in chat_hack template

find:
<form name="HearMeVCC">

and paste after:
<input type="hidden" name="Channel" value="channel_name">

where channel_name can be anything

There was no copyright notice in my original UBB footer - as I transferred this straight over without any changes the vb was not there - of course when this was pointed out I replaced immediatley ;)
