Simple stylevar work and a few of the images, and it looks totally different. No templates or addons. For a guy who recently had a stroke, this is about as good as it's going to get.

Good start! I'm not a fan of the pink links... the header has nothing to match that in it i.e. blues so maybe change those links imo.

You could try a black navtab background and with the slight white overlay it might still look fine or use that blue in the crescent moon... you might try those and refresh liking one of the changes or not but a quick decision none the less.

Hmm good start as Super said..try making your header a bit more unique , step outside the default vBulletin one... try some gradients here and there, once again separating yourself from the default style vBulletin has..

Its a start..but i wouldnt stop there...
