View Full Version : Paid Registration - How much do you want it?

Hello everyone!
I was wondering how much the community wants a real paid registration plugin/product (not one that forces already-registered users to get a subscription). I am in the process of developing such a thing and may release it if there is enough demand. I would also like to hear the community's thoughts about such a product.
Thanks! :)

I checked no as I wouldn't use one right now but you didn't leave any other choices like "maybe in the future", etc.

Nope, I have no use for such a product.
Thats not a reason not to release it tho, there will always be someone who wants such a thing.

seconded,
not sure why you want to create a poll for this, but I also voted no, because it's not my kind of philosophy to charge for content/forums on an account-basis

Even the best mods will probably have more than 99% "No" so a poll with just a "Yes" option might be apropriate and less depressing.....

I voted yes, but I would like to see an option were a user had an option for extended privileges (paid subscription) or a free (regular user) option.
My forum is free to anybody who meets the registration requirements, but there is also an option to sign up to VIP with extended privileges via the payments.php page.
To have this option available on registration in my opinion would have it's advantages.

Thanks for the feedback so far everyone! :)
Da-Vinci, I'm adding that as a feature. Thanks for the suggestion! :)

I'd like new users to have 3 options upon registration. Basic - Free, Advanced - $, Premium - $$$. Right now they can register for free and upgrade to paid memberships, but I want them to see that on registration to encourage the upgrade.

After I implement the suggestion by Da-Vinci, you will be able to accomplish this by creating two paid subscriptions (Advanced and Premium); the free option will automatically appear (unless you disable free registration from the AdminCP).
Speaking of, I am almost finished with the product. I am going to implement the suggestion by Da-Vinci and finalize things, then release the beta here some time next week.
Thanks for the input. :)

I like the idea for the user to be able to choose what kind of registration they would like. Brilliant actually.
Why make them go through 2 processes - if they wanted a subscription to begin with.
Cool idea - Ill keep my eye out for this. Im interested in seeing your result!

Why don''t you just release it and those who have a need for it will buy it.

Why would someone buy it if I released it here for free?

You misunderstood me. I didn''t mean it to release it for free.

Ah. This feels like something that should have been implemented from the start anyway, so I will not charge for this. If people want to donate for the time I put into it, that is a different story.

I am very interested in this, if you look in the paid services section I am actually willing to pay for such a mod, what is the ETA on your mod, if you need a tester count on me.
