[USML] Navbar Networks

[HMBeaty]

The [USML] Navbar Networks Version 2.0.0 allows you to add Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, YouTube, Skype, RSS and/or Google+ networking links to your navbar or header. This is mainly for the default navbar and header. If you install this on a custom navbar or header, you may need to tweak the stylevars for your custom style to get it working correctly.

Version 2.0.0 has been almost completely rewritten! So, be sure to make a backup of your changes, if you made any, as you will probably need to re-do those changes.

At this point, just waiting on certain bugs to be squashed in vBulletin (which should be done in vb 4.1.4 hopefully) so I can put a style I've been working with to use on it. Then again, I may just open it up with the default style.

You need to go into the plugin and edit the margins. For example:
margin:-2px 4px 6px 10px

You can see here in the picture that i just changed the icons and then the default alignment is not same even when i try to adjust once i change the facebook marjin all icons return back again to the original place.

And the 2px in the margin settings you quoted is actually -2px.

For CSS, margins are always the same.

The 1st number: top margin
The 2nd number: right margin
The 3rd number: bottom margin
The 4th number: left margin

I can't duplicate this and I'm using IE9 as well. Perhaps tick the "browse in compatibility mode" in the browser bar? Although that doesn't affect mine at all as it shows up the same way it does in IE9 as it does for FF4 for me. :confused:

That tells me absolutely nothing. Also...
This is mainly for the default navbar. If you install this on a custom navbar, you may need to tweak the margins a little to get it working how you want it.

Hmm done this before via simple template edits however I like how you threw it together in a package and members can access and assign url's and padding too so marking as installed just for the effort ;).

WTF am I doing wrong? Created a folder called usml_navnet in the images folder but when I enable it the bar is not finding the images. The rest works fine, e.g. the hover over and the links it's just not finding the images. Do I have to put the full Http:/etc into the settings in the control panel for the images?

Just a quick update to let everyone know what's going on since I haven't released the next update yet, my laptop crashed on me a couple weeks ago and I just bought a new one today. Not sure what is going on with my other laptop, but I've replaced the hard drive and still haven't really made any progress as far as getting it fixed. So, I've basically lost everything :(

So, with that being said, might be a little longer before the next update is released. However, to fix the AdminCP usergroup options, edit the plugin which should be labeled with something to the effect of "(ACP Options)" and change parse_templates to admin_options_processing and that will fix that. Thanks for your patience :)

that is a shorthand margin property, which is great if you're setting each side differently. The sequence is clockwise from the top ? top, right, bottom, left. it something you could have found out yourself by using a search engine ;-)

Did you upload all of the files to their correct directories? I'm going to say you more than likely didn't since you are receiving those errors.

I'm not sure about this one. I might do another rewrite of this if I have time, I've been working on my other modifications, and working on coding some other stuff for my site. So, IF I decide to code this in, it probably won't be soon.

Update: Looks just fine to me. However, those "blank" navtabs you have in your navbar were pushing the network icons behind the search bar, so I just moved it to show in the header.

It DOES work in 4.1.5 PL1 as that is what I use it on. Did you read and follow the instructions? Everything you need to know is in the readme ;)

First time I've heard of this since first releasing it. :confused:

1. What version of vBulletin are you running?
2. Do you get the same results when using the vBulletin default style?
3. Try disabling any other modifications you may have (one at a time) and see if you still have this issue.
4. Do you get the same results if the icons are in the header?
5. Do you get the same results if the icons are in the navbar?

I noticed you linked text with stylevars, not with language.

I think this is bad solution, especially for multilingual sites. Users can change language, but not style and they will have same message. We will have to make different styles for different languages this way.

Please, place phrases back with languages.

Lol! Wow! That's interesting as it didn't do that during testing. Anyway, let me explain what it's doing upon installation.... If you had installed the previous versions, I converted the plugins to files so they would be easier for me to edit, however, it got somewhat confusing after awhile, so I decided to convert them back to regular plugins. I also came across a code to automatically remove files/directories, which I added to the installation code. So, this code:

$navDir = "./includes/hooks/navnet";
$mainDir = "./includes/hooks/";

Yeah, I fixed it on my end as well, just re-import the new .xml here and all should be good to go :)

Also, as for your RSS feed working or not working, make sure you have it enabled ;)

Based on your screenshot in your earlier post, it looks just fine to me, and they are all perfectly aligned on a clean install.

Not at the moment. Currently, the only to do that would be to adjust the margin so they would all get displayed on the right, however, that may also throw the style off according to the users screen resolution

The path of the icons displayed in the browser (in any) is http://www.mydomain. but no http://www.mydomain/images/usml_navnet/XSocialicon.png

I tried changing the path of the images but can not find how.

I know what you were commenting on, which is why I asked if you had the Facebook platform enabled. As per the 1st post:
* To show your networks in the header, the Facebook platform must be enabled!

Because for the header, it uses:
{vb:raw facebook_header}
To display the icons where they're currently placed, and it doesn't display unless the Facebook platform is enabled because vBulletin basically doesn't see that code until it's enabled

Installed and working 4.1.10 Alpha 2 ...... A word of caution though.

I had to install this with "overwrite" turned on, upon the 2nd install. It seems as though it didn't install completely the 1st time and didn't add USMLNavbarNetworks the 1st time.

This was on my test site, with no other modifications installed.... Of course I am using an Alpha copy and this may not affect the final version. But it maybe something to keep an eye on in the future.

Right now, for the Google+ button, it doesn't have the option to show/include the bubble/annotation next to the image. Do you want to show that as well? Or just the image?

I believe the best way to achieve that would be to edit your header template and find:
<div id="toplinks" class="toplinks">
And right underneath that, add:
{vb:raw navnet}

Yeah, I found that out too. After changing it, you need to do a hard refresh (ctrl+f5) (not sure why that is :confused:)

I am not sure why I am having the issue with the opacity. Can someone walk me through how to get the icons darker? I tried adjusting the opacity, that did not work. I tried the "(ctrl+f5)" after changing it and that did not work either. Maybe I was not doing the (ctrl+f5) at the proper step? Please help a semi newbie. :) Thanks!

Thank you. I love the mod, and have been using it for a while. Just recently I messed around with your method and used the template to replace a few navbar tabs with shortcuts. Split the padding between the network icons and the ones that I wanted with the tab, and vola. :)
