The one you linked to already IS a vB4 mod: http://advertising.digitalpoint.com/publisher.php

You get the plug-in you need to install once you verify your site ownership in the system.

This means that When I install the script on my site this will automatically install???

I need something like this as well. The one shown by DP is too complicated for non technical people and costs you 20% of your advertising money.

What would anyone pay someone else to host advertising?

So you want to have something made for you for free so you can earn money with it?

What would anyone pay someone else to host advertising?I dunno... why do you let Google host your adverting via AdSense and let them take 32% of your ad revenue? :)

Probably because im getting ads from millions of publishers and a great way to make free money. Maybe im overseeing something here but why would I pay someone to take profit over ad space that I have to generate, meaning the likely hood of having Google bring ads to me is much higher than me getting publishers to advertise on my site. I would rather pay someone to bring ads to me rather than me pay someone else from advertisers that I have to try and get.
I like your idea and maybe you can sell it as a purchased solution where "the customer" buys the advertising solution and owns it, we just pay maintenance on the software rather than pay for every advertiser that we get. Works out better that way, you make money on software maintenance and we the customers own the solution

Works out better that way, you make money on software maintenance and we the customers own the solutionIt's something I've thought about, but the system requirements for the system make the headache of trying to support multiple installations just not worth it. For anything but the smallest site, they would probably need a dedicated machine to run the system (it's doing realtime bid and cost calculations for every impression, checking daily spend limits on a per ad/advertiser basis for each impression, logging every impression, etc.) You have issues where the serving JavaScript needs to be updated regularly (for example last week Google changed some things with how AdSense is served over AJAX, so that had to be updated)... trying to get everyone using the system to update their stuff every week or so isn't realistic.

There are backend helper daemons that need to be compiled/installed for doing CPU intensive tasks like compiling keyword list iterations when things change.

Basically trying to help people run the system on their end would not be worth the support nightmare even if they were paying us twice what they pay us now.

Obviously the system isn't for everyone... it's geared towards sites who are outgrowing things like AdSense and need better options for targeting (for example an advertiser can choose to advertise in a single forum section on their site, and only to users in certain countries. Giving advertisers more granularity with how they can target actually ends up making the CPM/click rates go up (it's a bidding system, and when advertisers can get more specific with the type of users they are interested in, they tend to drive the costs up on their own). As an example, when we went live with the system, our ad revenue was up about 400% over what we were making with AdSense within 30 days (without adding any placements... just using the same AdSense placements).

The first version was intended ONLY for in-house use only, but the advertisers liked it so much they started asking/begging to be able to use it on their sites to sell ads... that's the only reason we went back and rewrote it so digitalpoint.com was A site in the system rather than THE site.

Again, it's not for everyone... it's more for medium/large sites who need a platform to allow advertisers to bid on ad space.

Buy oiopublisher www.oiopublisher.com

It will solve all of yoru advertising worries and is far better than any vbulletin mod, $37 one time fee, however there are coupons available if you look around.

What would anyone pay someone else to host advertising? Are you happy and satisfied with Google's advertising monopoly? Are you happy with censoring your site according to Google's demands? Independent ad publishing is a good thing, and Digital Point is helping us in that direction. He may take a fee but I don't see the problem with that as long as his fees are lower than Google's and he also deserves some payment for all his hard work in maintaining his ad system.

Hey DP, I just signed up on your forum thanks to this plugin, great stuff man.

I myself don't care to be giving other people money that is earned from MY WEBSITE traffic. Instead, I researched different programs on google and there are many choices. Yes, you will have to pay for a solution but it is better than paying a percentage of your earned income to another site. It also requires that you do some legwork and research.

It's unbelievable that forums.digitalpoint.com has moved to XenForo :-(

I don't know why you are so surprised. Many of us are slowly making the switch. I personally can't stand the newest vb and think the devs are incompetent since the fix for the php5 issues still surround vb4. I waited patiently for over a year myself for the fix to the doublepost issue, which they are 100% aware of JUST from me ,and yet it still exists. I have been a vb license holder for 12 years and purchased my first xenforo license last week. I will never return to vBulletin once I migrate all of my websites. Vbulletin has turned into a humorless joke in my opinion.
