Mod Drop Down Hack ((FINAL))

This mod will add a drop down scroll in your moderator column. Originally designed by 411blaze for UBB6x and I'm not sure if he released it for vbulletin, but here it is. I will offer limited support, but its to simple to configure wrong.

Yeah you have a point, But this is php and for it to run slow would be really strange. This is a nice hack I tried to keep it simple for that reason..

also If you use please let me know if its working good, thanks!

I like the look a lot. We're using the moderators column (at http://tony.murmurs.com) for functions in the forum (Mark Forum Read and Get New Posts). Now, I'm adding two more functions (Mark Forum + All Children Read and New POsts in Forum + Children) so, a dropdown is a good way to have four options!

Thanks for the idea :)

where it say do this

Next you want to edit your header section and add this script so
It runs correctly. So Go back to main style area, where you change
your colors, fonts, ect and you now have to add the script in "header" text box.

Look For This Code:
----------------------------------

<!-- content table -->
<table bgcolor="{pagebgcolor}" width="{tablewidth}" cellpadding="6" cellspacing="0" border="0">
<tr>
<td>

Add Underneath:
-------------------------------

<!-- kaotixVIBEinc -->
<script>
<!--
function jumpPage(newLoc) {
newPage = newLoc.options[newLoc.selectedIndex].value
if (newPage != "") { window.location.href = newPage }
}
// -->
</script>
<!-- /kaotixVIBEinc -->

i cant because this code aint in my template
<!-- content table -->
<table bgcolor="{pagebgcolor}" width="{tablewidth}" cellpadding="6" cellspacing="0" border="0">
<tr>
<td>

here is my template:

<!-- logo and buttons -->
<center>
<a href="index.php?s=$session[sessionhash]"><img src="{titleimage}" border="0" alt="$bbtitle"></a><br><br><br>
<!-- toplinks -->
<a href="usercp.php?s=$session[sessionhash]"><img src="{imagesfolder}/top_profile.gif" alt="Here you can view your subscribed threads, work with private messages and edit your profile and preferences" border="0"></a>
<a href="register.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=signup"><img src="{imagesfolder}/top_register.gif" alt="Registration is free!" border="0"></a>
</a>
<a href="memberlist.php?s=$session[sessionhash]"><img src="{imagesfolder}/top_members.gif" alt="Find other members" border="0"></a>
<a href="misc.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=faq"><img src="{imagesfolder}/top_faq.gif" alt="Frequently Asked Questions" border="0"></a>
<a href="search.php?s=$session[sessionhash]"><img src="{imagesfolder}/top_search.gif" alt="Search" border="0"></a>
<a href="index.php?s=$session[sessionhash]"><img src="{imagesfolder}/top_home.gif" alt="Home" border="0"></a>

joecrow -- you can add that code in you main style area under header, you know how you enter to change your colors and fonts, there some options header incert, header, footer, colors in the header area it should be there.

A question; can't understand what do this:
<!-- kaotixVIBEinc -->
<script>
<!--
function jumpPage(newLoc) {
newPage = newLoc.options[newLoc.selectedIndex].value
if (newPage != "") { window.location.href = newPage }
}
// -->
</script>

It looks like it's a good hack but wouldn't it be impossible to select the first moderator on the list? The javascript only activates on changing of the list box selected item.

If there is a way to configure it to have the word "Moderators" or something like that for the first line, I'll install it :)

Hey guys

I just downloaded the 2 files: moddropdown and modexdrop and installed as instructed. Everything seems to work fine with exception of these 2 issues:

- There is a link pointing to a file called showmods.php, but this file doesn't exist in my vbulletin directory. Am I missing anything?

- The dropdown menu (Moderated By) doesn't show the list of the mods ...

Any hint?

Thanks in advance for the great hack and for any possible help

I installed this on 2.2.1 first the guy who I'm doing his site for didn't want the moderator column so I removed it. Later he decided he did want the mod column back and wanted ths hack installed. I put the mod column back on the forum home page. all mods are now listed there and everything looks good. I installed this hack but it didn't chnage anything. Mods are still listed as they were when vb was first installed. I check all the templlates i had to edit like 10 times and i know it all right cause i installed this hack many times. any know what wrong?

Hey just like to say thanks for the cool hack.

However I'm having the same problem as Dez_U I've added the code to both ...

forumhome_forumbit_level1_post and forumhome_forumbit_level2_post

But I'm only seeing the drop downs on the main forums not the subforums.

I'm on 2.2.0 of the the boards if that helps any.

Ghostsuit
11-21-2001, 11:18 AM
Ok I've spent the last 40 minutes looking through template and I think I've found the solution to my and Dez-U's problem

To get the drop downs on the subforums you need to expand Forum Display Templates

Then edit both the forumhome_forumbit_level1_post and
forumhome_forumbit_level2_post putting the code in you used for "Forum Home Page Templates" and edit your "forumhome_forumbit_level2_post.

I'm pretty sure this doesn't muck up anything on the forum but if I'm wrong give me a shout.

No, hold on I'll check I know what you did wrong I do it sometimes when I install this hack. But just run over the hack again and check everything to make sure you did it right. It's a really easy hack to install not to many things to do so less to go wrong.

LuBi
12-05-2001, 01:40 PM
So make sure you did the following:

edit your forumhome_forumbit_level2_post
edit your forumhome_moderator template
Then edit your header.

Not to much to do, try updating your counters. I always do that after installing a hack. I bet that'll fix it.. :confused: goodluck :D if all else fails just go over the hack again and check everything.

cturcich
12-05-2001, 01:45 PM

eh? :)

what do you have, like a 1280x960 resolution or something?
i use 1024x768, and it fits just fine.

i actually took a poll some time ago regarding resolutions,
and it seems 80%+ of my users use 1024x768;
thus, i created the graphics to fit that resolution;
anything smaller will have scroll bars,
and i assume anything bigger will have that gap.

is that right? i hope so. thanks for pointing that out tho!

LuBi
12-06-2001, 01:01 PM
Nope I'm 1024 also and you have a gap, you shouldn't go by pixel because the people who do have smaller resolutions will have a tough time. I make my sites to work with both. You can do what you wish but if I was 800x600 on your site I wouldn just leave instead of trying to navigate. just my .02

Twig Deez
12-08-2001, 02:53 AM
well dude, i'm 1024x768 like i said, and i don't see a gap;
in fact, that's the first time i've ever heard that such a thing exists,
but you know. i'll look into it and stuff.

cheers.

I tried to get this hack to work, and just could not succeed as something in the database seems to stop the hack working.

I have come to this conclusion in the following way.

I did a clean install of vbulletin as a test with no entries in the database, installed the dropdown hack and it worked first time.

However when i then edited config.php and changed the database back to my real populated database, the drop down disapeared!

Any ideas as this one has been driving me nuts.

Thanks

Great hack!

Only problem I can see is for macintosh users. The moderator popup in 7 point is unreadable and worse is the extra inch of space to the left of the image and popup in that part of the table.

Anyone see this or have a fix? I can't figure out how to cure this on the mac w/out affecting the pc.

i'm not so certain, but i believe that's your system colours;
like, whatever your menu selection colour is on your computer,
that's the highlight colour on the drop down menu.
same with the arrow... that's the 3d object colour on your system.

control panel > display > appearance.

i'm not sure if there's a way to override those,
and if there is... i don't know it. sorry!

This hack is the first time I ever installed one and with the help of a couple of kind people I was able to get it to work (I am a newbie). I do have a question. I would like my drop down boxes to be uniform in width but they are not depending on the length of my moderators usernames. My problem is not with the max length (it works fine with the longer usernames) its with the drop down menus that only have mods with short usernames are not as wide as the ones with the long usernames. In my way of thinking I need to code it so the drop down box has to be a certain width so all of the boxes are uniform. Can anyone help me with this?

Me Again :D

U could change "moderator" to the width of your longest name from your moderators so that the widths are identic:

<OPTION VALUE="#">moderators</OPTION>

theguru

Could you explain that in a little more detail?

Lesane

Look at this site as example:

http://forums.411hype.com/

He changed "moderator" to "411's Moderators" so that all the dropdown boxes has the length of "411's Moderators".

If i check your forum then i c that the longest moderator is "bluegrassfootballfan", now change "moderator" to a title thats longer then that name and all the dropdown boxes are uniform in width.

Change "moderators" to "BluegrassPreps Moderators" and you will c what i mean ;)

If u readed the whole thread then u knew your problem already :p

Here:

its says in the instructions:

Expand your category "Forum Home Page Templates" and edit your "forumhome_forumbit_level2_post."

Now Replace This Code:
------------------------------------

<td bgcolor="#13486D"><smallfont>$forum[moderators]</smallfont></td>
</tr>

With This Edited Code:
--------------------------------

<form><td bgcolor="#13486D" valign="middle" align="right" nowrap>
<IMG align="absmiddle" SRC="https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/images/team.gif">
<SELECT NAME="newLoc" onChange="jumpPage(this.form.newLoc)" style="font-size: 7pt; background-color: #dfdfdf; font-family: Arial, Tahoma;" maxlength="20">
<OPTION VALUE="#">moderators</OPTION>
<OPTION VALUE="#">---------------------</OPTION>
$forum[moderators]</select></td></form></tr>

Now Save Changes!!

Now do the same for the template: forumhome_forumbit_level1_post

Done :D

Great and simple hack !!
Just something: if I hadn't no moderators for one area, should be too difficult to hide the entire drop-down box ?
How ?

Thanks.

Nice hack.. have it installed and working fine on 2.2.5.. I took the advice of people here about adding it to forumdisplay_forumbit_level1_post and it made it show when i went into a sub category .. however if that subcategory has a subcategory (little confusing yet?) you also have to modify forumdisplay_forumbit_level2_post ... then it will work ..

If ya don't know what i'm talkin about with the subcategories.. then I'll try to explain.. for forumdisplay_forumbit_level1_post that works for something like General>Subcategories(two level tree) .. and the level 2 is for like General>Subcategories>with one having a subcategory(three level tree) .. i kno that does't explain it too much.. but I tried.. lol .. anywas.. edit both of those templates.. along with the ones stated in the .txt file and the hack will work in all sections.

btw.. i added an updated .txt with the instructions i was talking about.

Ok I installed the hack and it works fine with one exception.

When i enter a sub forum it shows the drop down fine but its blank. Even tho im set to be a mod.

What I did:
I modified forumbit lvl1 & 2 post and forumhome lvl1 & 2 post then I edited my forumhome_moderator and my forumbit_moderatedby. I then modifies the header as instructed. I went over it and redid it 3 times. Still I get the same results.

http://www.molecularedesigns.com/VB-Home/forumdisplay.php3?forumid=2

as u can see there .. No mods are visible even tho I am a mod *_*

Please help?

Yes!! :) Seems like a popular modification, I'm just glad everyone is using this hack. I have always like that mod on ubb, and thought I would design it for vbulletin. Never thought it would be used this much. Good To See this mod heavily used on forums. If there isn't a version that is compatible with this hack, then I will be sure to update it. So don't worry..

Maybe I'll design a forum image hack, is there one out there? If so please leave a link.

Just wanted to clear up something in the instructions! So I fixed the instructions a little! I hope this is ok!

I had to do the changes in forumdisplay_forumbit_level1_post

but also the:

forumhome_forumbit_level2_post

so here is the slightly revised hack!

How can I add drop down menus for User registration's profile Fields?

In other words I would like the users during registration process to answer a few questions by selecting answers from a drop down (User profile fields). These answers will then be display when someone looks at the member's profile.

Thanks!

Great hack! IT works fine for my main index. I have read every post about editing the hack to work for sub forums but mine is not working correctly.

I hav a sub forum which uses another template style. Do i need to only change the corresponding templates in the other style? Please list which templates need to be changed if your subforum uses another style.

how can I make it work for my sub forums?Unless you are running vB2, you can't.

Even when you are running vB2, i wouldn't know how you could do it since i never had a vB2 installation.
