vBQuiz: What is it?

DragonByte Technologies is proud to present vBQuiz v2, a feature-rich advanced quiz modification.

Why vBQuiz?

You and your users will be able to create several different type of quizzes from basic multiple choice questions to result generator type quizzes. Quizzes can be rated and commented on and users can keep hidden/public notes on their quiz results. vBQuiz allows for an unlimited amount of questions and answers.

vBQuiz is integrated with vBActivity to give users achievements for creating and taking quizzes as well as basic vBCredits II integration to give users credits for creating and completing quizzes.

What does 'Marking As Installed' do ?

* It helps you to stay on top of updates - members who have installed modifications will be notified by us whenever new updates are available.

* For security issues - vbulletin.org will contact all members who have installed a modification whenever a security issue is brought to their attention.

* Marking a modification as installed also helps us know how many people are using our work, giving us extra incentive to provide more features and new modifications.

You can disable the nav tab by going to your plugin manager and disabling the vBQuiz plugin for the hook process_templates_complete.
That will remove your submenu options as well though so make sure you have them moved to whatever you use for navigation.

I've also seen some users who want to use it to quiz their users before promoting them to different groups.

Did you set the permissions in Admincp > DBTech - vBQuiz > Category Management AND in the usergroups

Is the version right? In the copyright it has it as vBQuiz v1.0.0 when it was 1.0.1 that I installed?

My version is not submitting when new quiz started, any help with that one?

Sorry about the issue with the date. I'm working on fixing that now.

Yes the code on here is 1.0.1. I just forgot to change it in the xml file. There were no xml code changes between 1.0.0 and 1.0.1, so it works the same, just shows as an older version. I'll be uploading 1.0.2 with the date fix after it's done and it will have the right version number in it :)

I will see if I can work on a converter for the Inferno Quiz to this. I haven't looked at the database for Inferno Quiz so I'm not sure if it will work, I'll give it a shot though.

With the result generator you can assign one result to each answer. With the adv result generator you can assign an answer worth to each result for each answer.

If you get a permission error then check your usergroup settings.
If you can't view categories when you view the quiz main page then check your category settings in the ACP

I took a look, you have it setup a bit wrong.
View the quiz and select the Quiz Options dropdown and deactivate the quiz

After it's deactivated you will see a button that says Modify Questions. That is where you need to setup the questions at. You just have all the questions and answer listed in the Quiz Description area.

For future versions could there possibly be an option to add 'Submitted Quizzes' into a thread ID rather than a forum? I'm finding that so many users are taking the quiz that the forum they are being submitted too is very cluttered now lol! I would like it if they were all in one thread!

That's a usergroup permission setting. The setting that deals with that is Entries Auto Approved? So make sure the registered users group has that set to Yes.

Unfortunately, I don't see any way to get at the product as it doesn't appear on any of the Navbars or under drop down boxes?

What am I missing? :confused:

Thanks for the login, took a while but figured it out. Something on your site's style is conflicting with the timer function. I removed the timer from the template and it's working for now. It's late here so I'll take a look tomorrow and see if I can figure it out. For now it should work as expected except you can't use a timer on any quizzes.

The way I plan to use this is by showing screen shots of some trading charts and asking users to make trade decisions based on what the chart (image) shows them, so I'd need the question to be an image. For most question types, the question and answers can be image, text or both.
You can either upload an image to the db locally or it will convert bbcode and you can use a remote image.

Sorry, the Category permissions were not set to allow viewing from unregistered members. You should be able to see it now.

Try reuploading the files and installing again. It sounds like some of the files didn't get uploaded.

I just added an inferno quiz importer in the 1.1.1 zip.
It's in the do not upload/importers folder
Just put the file into your admincp directory and browse to it. It will import all the categories and quizzes. If you run it again it will remove all the imported categories and quizzes and start over.
Delete the file once you are done.

It hasn't been thoroughly tested so test it out first and make sure you backup :)

Yes, that was an old file that accidentally was included. Let me know if the import works and if I need to make any changes to it :)

Was really looking forward to this quiz mod, but left a little disappointed, unless Im missing something.

All of the quizes to me seem in some way multiple choice, or at least have the correct answer there infront of them where all members need do is select the correct answers.

I was hoping it would be possible to have a quiz where members had to type the answer.

e.g making a logo quiz where members have to name the logo from a picture, would be very easy with the use of google as they would just need to search the choices in front of them.

am I missing something or is it not possible to create a quiz where members either know it or they dont and need to type the correct answers (matching the answer submitted by the quiz creator), without the member using google or lucky guess work

If you create a double ended or variety quiz with a double ended question, you can use only the first question box and it will be a straight fill in the blank type of question.
The doubled ended is text only but it does translate bbcode so you can enter image bbcode to display an image.

It is the first version of the quiz mod and we are open to suggestions so if you think of something that would make it a more robust mod in your eyes let us know :)

but in future versions (lite :)) I would suggest a normal question and snswer quiz where members type the correct answer. Also with the ability to have a picture in the question.

an extra for pro would be the ability for the quiz creator to add near answers along with the correct answer

eg if the answer was "moonpig.com" and a member typed "moonpig" they would get the message "nearly" instead of incorrect

If you are talking about the Inferno mod then yes, I just added an inferno quiz importer in the 1.1.1 zip.
It's in the do not upload/importers folder
Just put the file into your admincp directory and browse to it. It will import all the categories and quizzes. If you run it again it will remove all the imported categories and quizzes and start over.
Delete the file once you are done.

It hasn't been thoroughly tested so test it out first and make sure you backup :)

The Lite version of our mod has more features than any current or, to the best of my knowledge, previous quiz mod created for vBulletin so i'm not really sure how you can call it half a mod - unless every other quiz mod on vB.org was also half a mod =P

With the lite version, the admin can't specify the retry maximum per their usergroup, the users can retake quizzes though.

We will be adding more statistics in future releases.

True there are lots of features, far more than any other quiz mod, and I agree its the best. but members take a quiz and they like to see what they got right and wrong etc.

I am just suggesting the the two fundamental parts of a quiz the questions and the answers should be in the lite version.

Really sorry about that. If you edit the plugin, Build Quiz Type List
and change
if (file_exists(DIR . '/dbtech/vbquiz/hooks/dbtech_vbquiz_create_complete.php'))to
if (file_exists(DIR . '/dbtech/vbquiz_pro/hooks/dbtech_vbquiz_create_complete.php'))It will fix that.

I'm not positive about rolling it back. You can try to upload the old files, edit the product to be version 1.1.0 and then import the 1.1.1 xml product and it should work.

I just uploaded a hotfix for 1.2.1 to fix a problem with editing questions. If you installed 1.2.1 then download the package again and reinstall the xml file to fix the problem. The php files are fine how they are.

I've never played with MT. I'm not sure what you are wanting to do? If you are talking about using our quiz mod to just store the results while using MT to run the quizzes, it probably wont work. The way the results are stored requires the quiz mod to be controlling the quizzes.

Also is there a way to alter the way scores are displayed on the leaderboard?? It is set to percentage now, is there a way we could do it by total points scored?? The percentage basis seems to be a bit off. When you take 1 quiz and get every question right, only registers a score of 50%. After 34, not missing a question, only get score of 99%

Double check your usergroup permissions. That is the only thing that drives if someone can do something with the quiz mod or not.

It is the exact same zip file, the php files are the same between the vB3 and vB4 versions, the only difference is the xml product file that needs to be imported.

EDIT:
Just make sure you download the latest version. If I do vB4 only fixes then I will only update the vB4 thread, so you might have different versions between the vB3 and vB4 threads.

With multiple choice quizzes you can have a mix of text/images on both the question and answers, so yes, you could make a question like that example.

The Personalty by Decado is more of building sentences/paragraphs that match up with the answers they select for each question.

First, thanks for a fun mod!

Second, I have a problem with this mod being infected with a virus. It sets off nod32 and security essentials and black lists the pages. It happened to both sites I have used this mod on. I scanned the directory and all of the files within the dbtech/vbquiz directory seam to be infected.

Can I overwrite the directory with clean files to solve the issue, or I need to do something more? How can I prevent this from happening again?

Hey,

I've just downloaded the 1.2.1 files and installed them on a test board, and Nod32 (v5.0.93.0) has kept entirely quiet. Could you provide a screenshot of the virus popup Nod32 gives when you're attempting to access your site?

Also, you may want to check your FTP access logs to ensure nobody has uploaded infected files without your knowledge.

In addition, if you didn't get the files from www.DragonByte-Tech.com or from this thread, then it's possible the user that uploaded the files has attached viruses to them.

Finally, you may want to run a deep scan of your computer just to make sure it's not a virus that's hiding in sections of the OS that Nod's live protection don't normally scan.

If it -was- vBQuiz, NOD would trigger when you first downloaded it, not after you uploaded it. Whatever script on your server is infected is scanning for writable directories and duplicates itself to that folder.

I have the Pro version of this running on 4.1.10 and now when someone completes a quiz they are getting a score of 0% each and every time Has this been updated since 4.1.10 came out? I am running vBQuiz v1.1.1

From0to3to4to3 has completed the scored quiz Red Sox .vs. Yankees 2004 ALCS and got a 0%.

Now before anyone says well maybe he did score a 0% impossible because I made a question that only had the right answer to choose from lol. Any help would be appreciated before my members start a revolt against me :)

The registered users are able to click on the Take Quiz, once they click on it. It give them you don't have permission to take the quiz.

Pro has the ability to show the users the answer with an explanation after the quiz is completed.
There is no ability to shuffle the questions at the present time. The questions and answers are in a set order.

Hi Dragon, i have 3 problems:

1)My user can retry a quiz more and more time, but i have set to 1 max retry in ACP
2)I can't update score of my users entry! example (i want convert quiz percent result to point) and i see ever percent result o.O
3)In a percent quiz (5 question for example) a user have scored 50%???????? O____O It's impossible!

It resizes the images using GD so it requires that be enabled in php. That error usually happens when you don't have GD installed. Can you see if you have GD installed and what version you are running if you do?

Hi great mod! However, doing some testing, when the quiz is finished, it says 100%. In the activity stream however, it says "xxx just scored 150%" Any ideas what's going wrong?

Sorry about the extra nav link, next version I'll take the extra one out. You could do what cosan suggested or the preferred way is to disable the dynamic one.

ACP->Plugins & Products->Plugin Manager
Scroll down to the vBQuiz section and uncheck the box next to
Navigation Button 4.2
and save

If you are using the nav manager one you can disable it from inside there. If you are using the dynamic one you can't disable it.
It uses normal FAQ entries, in your ACP there should be a section on the left pane called FAQ that you can edit it in.

You can only emed remotely hosted videos, like youtube. It doesn't embed/display videos in itself.

Make sure you configured the usergroup settings right so the admin can see quizzes. If you think you have it right and you still can't see the button I'd need to get admin access to check it out and see what's going on.

Yeah sorry about that. Go into your plugin manager and disable the plugin called "Navigation Manager 4.2" in the quiz section. Once you disable that plugin you can activate the nav manager one for manual placement.
I need to put in an option to disable the dynamic nav link.

No not really.
They enter the quiz, make a screenshot of the questions and then press BACK. The quiz is never finalized. Then with the screenshot they can find the answers without the pressure of time.

For me the best thing would be that when they START the quiz then that there is already something in the systems that knows they have already took the quiz even when they don't finalyze it.

I have been playing with this and just upgraded it to the latest version. When I submit my test quiz I always score "0 points answered correctly out of 0 points possible". Also, if I try to leave a comment on the Quiz Landing Page I always end up with the screenshot added to this post. Its a message where I am guessing a javascript action is taking place. Not sure how to correct it.

I don't need you to edit the quiz itself. My concern now is that I just installed this 100% clean and it doesn't work out of the box. My intent is/was to purchase the pro version because this has the potential to work for me on one of my sites.

I haven't modified anything at all. It is 100% vanilla.

I can take the test but it doesn't score. I also tried using the weighted score system and that too doesn't work. What could you change on this quiz that would make it work?

I also just checked the results table and after 1 test (5 questions) it says I answered 25 incorrect and got 0 correct with a 0% result. It even says I only took 1 test, today. What would you change to fix this issue?

As you can imagine, with a large mod like this it's best to see the issues in action in order to verify the process for reproducing an issue.

Obviously the issues you are reporting do not exist for every user, otherwise this thread would have been flooded with reports of this issue since day 1.

If the developer of the modification requests access to see the issues in action as well as validate the configuration, but you refuse this request, then we will be unable to assist you. Your issue may be fixed in the future if another user encounters the same issue and is willing to help our developers reproduce & fix the issue, but there is no guarantee that this will happen.

Everything works fine except one strange thing that happens when you set answer worth > 1.

Quiz:
Multiple choice questions.
3 questions.
3 answers
1 correct answer in each question.
Correct answer worth = 10
Bad answers worth = 0

Users answers all 3 questions and gets this message:

Final Results
10%
3 points answered correctly out of 30 points possible

Why 3 points out of 30 points possible? It should be 30 points out of 30 points.

If you change correct answer worth = 1 it's all ok:

Final Results
100%
3 points answered correctly out of 3 points possible

What's wrong with that?

Your mode has a bug I think. Your navbar drop menu doesn't display correctly in vbAdvanced, vbForum or any other location besides on the main vbQuiz page.

The drop menu is missing links. (see screenshot)
