This will play You've Got Mail when a new notification is received. You can also replace the mail.mp3 file with your own sound to play upon a new notification.

I ask that you not remove the branding as it helps support me. Without support I will not continue making modifications.

Installation:
Upload mail.mp3 to root of vB directory
Install product-soundnotification.xml
Mark Installed
Done


Upgrading:
Import the product and select Allow Overwrite.

Before you judge, maybe you should ask what the premium features are. I've seen a few mods that are just two lines of copied javascript, but their premium counterparts... they are always better.

If the above code is found in your header template, you will need to change the modification.

Find:
vB_Template::preRegister('navbar',array('soundnoti fication' => $soundnotification));


Replace:
vB_Template::preRegister('header',array('soundnoti fication' => $soundnotification));

I really dislike the way 4.0 does vars... Makes things more difficult. I'll fix this in the new version.

I wasn't judging you or your mod. I clicked on the link to the premiumfeatures above, saw that I had to register, closed the window and moved along.

I'm interested in this mod, but a linkback for this? no way. If I might suggest something: List the premium features where people can read them without registering somewhere else. Including prices and a comparison what you can do with free/paid version.

How can you rate something to which you haven't actually asked for help to get it working properly, it's not my fault you are impatient and have a designer that doesn't know what he is doing. The code is required to show notifications. It can be found in the default style, if it is not in your style you are using, then it better be a free style otherwise you got ripped off.

If it is not in your default style, then mark my modification as installed and I will help get it working. I don't support those who do not install my modification. I need you to post the VBulletin 4.1.0 PL2 Default Style in code brackets. Only your header template. I didn't click supported for no reason you know...

Thanks for sticking up for me, for that I will send you a premium copy of the modification for free. I need to put some final touches on it however as I have decided to rewrite the premium version from scratch.

Rewritting the mod from scratch for premium. It will be based on the end user and give them all the power over the modification.

It will create 4 profile fields:
Sound Notification - This allows the user to choose rather or not to enable the modification

Sound Notification Location - This allows the user to choose if the sound is played on all locations of the board or just the forumhome.

Sound Notification Presets - This field contains 10 preset sounds the user can choose from.

Sound Notification File - This allows the user to choose their own alert sound to play when they receive a notification.


It will also feature:
Usergroup permissions
AdminCP Global Disable and Global Forumhome.

You of course can add your own preset sounds to the profile field, or replace with your own via ftp.


I will take ANY suggestions you have. The premium version will be available soon.

now my members are getting 'missing profile field' error when they log in, even when everything in profile is filled in properly.

Can anyone help with this, using vb4.2.0 The code found on vb4.2.0 was in headernot navbar and the array was put under it and the xml was edited replacing "navbar" with header

Profile Id number was also added to the xml in the place specified, and uploaded the mp3 to public_html

Am I missing something here?

You're not missing anything it doesn't work. The OP just abandoned it. I will play around with it to see if I can get it working (4.2.1) but it may be a lost cause. Shame it's not supported because I was going to buy the premium version too.

Too many were hating on the product, so I figured no one wanted it, so I stopped working on it. I have a simple version I been using on my forums for my admins for the last few months, but nothing special.

Part of the problem with it seems to be it was created using apples os(guess). It wanted me to install quicktime after installing it. (the no sound problem maybe)
firefox stuck a box saying something needed the quicktime plugin to run. It stuck that notice at the top of the sidebar of all places and was the top block of the sidebar. Not even sure if it was FF that did it. Never had a plugin request show up in vb like it before..

This is my fault, I apologize, I don't know what is going on with sellfy but they never correct a file update when I upload a newer version. I'm out of town, when I get back tomorrow I will PM you correct version. Sorry for any inconvenience.

It uses <embed src> Firefox will sometimes do that for wav files. try MP3.

I reinstalled this hoping that it would work on vB4.2.2
Used mp3 file, still no sound with mod enabled.
is there something I have to manually edit/add in the header template?
I'm confused. I'd get the 'pro'/premium version but not until this works =S

ETA: it took a little while (half hour or so) but the sound is now playing. However, now my user's general settings look like this:

Yes, I can see where it could get irritating but I have members asking for it. The best thing would be such a mod with a setting in the UserCP to select on or off.

Yeah I have seen users ask for this before. The developer has not been online for two months now, could be busy with his personal life. Hopefully he can come on soon and look into the bug reports.

I have played with the cookie settings
the one what I have chenged is
if ($pm_unread['pmunread'] > '0')


to
if ($pm_unread['pmunread'] >= '1')


in ACP I have dissabled the setting for " Use a cookie to only alert members of new PMs once? "

Tested with VB 4.2.3 in IE, FF and Chrome
