When I first installed Vbulletin I threw all the content into the /main directory after my web root. So my url looks like http://url.com/main/content.php. I want a very SEO friendly way of moving all the content out of the /main folder, into the / folder so my urls look something like http://url.com/content.php. I'm thinking the only way is to do a 301 redirect using the .htaccess folder, but I have absolutely no idea how to do it.
Am I on the right track? Thanks!

<a href="http://www.tamingthebeast.net/articles3/spiders-301-redirect.htm" target="_blank">http://www.tamingthebeast.net/articl...1-redirect.htm</a>
And you would also obviously have to move the files to the new directory and change the settings in your vBulletin Options in your AdminCP for "Site Name / URL / Contact Details"

Thanks for the info HMBeaty. I think my issue is, how would I create an htaccess file that would redirect every old page to the new page?

Would something like this work for Vbulletin?
RedirectMatch 301 /main/(.*) //$
