View Full Version : Images stored in posts when deleted from albums

Looking for a way to keep posts and threads from being distroyed when a member removes an image from their vb album.

For example, say member 'Sam' has posted a thread about a issue he has with a piece of live coral he has in his saltwater tank. He includes a photo that he uploaded to his album.

The thread receives many replies, etc... and finally someone with a solution to his problem posts the solution. 'Sam' is overjoyed and says thanks for all the help.

A little time goes by and Sam visits his photo albums on the forum. He see the old photo of the damaged coral and decides to delete it because the issue was resolved. When he deletes the image, now the thread in the forum shows a big red x or image missing notice. No longer is that thread helpful since the photo that Sam had posted (and everyone commented on) is now missing.

What I am looking for is a mod that will store that image somewhere else so that if the member deletes it in his personal album, the thread where the image was posted will not be ruined. This way, the member that is done with the image as in my example above can delete it, but the visitors and members of the site that might have the same issue as Sam had who find the thread via search will get the benefit of seeing the original image still in the post.

Any ideas or suggestions welcomed!

Regard,
Kether

This mod is the closest thing out there: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=253309

Only problem is, the way it's programmed now it will ignore images on your own domain, which includes albums.

But if that part could be changed/fixed it would be exactly what you need.

What version of vB are you running? This exact issue was discussed in another thread recently.

Thanks, Joe, I am aware of this modification and use it for offsite images. It really is a great modification. But alas, as you said, it is close, but not what I need to solve this issue.

Hi Lynne, I am using vB4.1.1 on my live site currently. Will upgrade to 4.1.2 soon but am waiting to see what 4.1.3 will entail before doing so.

thanks,
Kether

Hi, I seem to be bumping my old request, but I still would like to find a modification to do what I described in the opening post as quoted below. Can anyone offer any current solutions from the last year? VB4.2

Thanks a bunch,
Kether

One solution to this problem is to not have albums.
