Hey guys,

I have been searching for the last couple days trying to get my head around custom forum icons etc.

Basically i have a gaming site, with different platforms (so original i know!)

Anyway, basically at the moment i am in the process of changing the theme, and i have managed to assign the forum_new.gif / forum_old.gif in each specific forum, which is easy, however how do i then move this down to the threads as well, so i can have that same custom icon appear for the thread_new.gif.

eg.

PC FORUMS: http://mygaming.com.au/forums/images/statusicon/PC/forum_new.gif are all this icon.

PS3 FORUMS: http://mygaming.com.au/forums/images/statusicon/PS3/forum_new.gif are this icon

How do i than transpose these specific icons to become the thread_new.gif etc in those specific areas? obviously i will be making an icon for each area, if its 4 sets i dont mind, but at the moment when my users push "whats new" it would be easier for them to distinguish via the thread post icon.

The quick answer is you don't... By default you can only use one set of thread icons per style, you can't customize them for each forum.

Your thread icons are controlled by the path Item Status Icon Folder in your "All Style Options" for each style.

You'd have to copy the forum icons and rename them to the appropriate thread icon names.

If you really wanted to have separate thread icons for each forum then you'd have to make a unique style for each forum and in your forum manager set a specific style for each forum- this could easily get messy and would mean you really couldn't have users select any styles, they'd all be set by you.

I suppose a mod could be made to add a feature with unique thread icons for selected forums, but I haven't seen one before.

I thought that would be the case..... lol.

Anyway is there anyway of easily copying the forum style x 3 times, renaming each to Wii, PS3 etc and changing the status icons of each style?

I assume that once the member clicks on the specific forum from the forum home index it will change the style right through of that area? or will it be a matter of assigning the forum style to each sub forum within the gaming platform as well?

You just go to "Add A New Style" and choose your original style as the "Parent Style" then the only thing you change is the path to the status icons.

You do this for each style (wii, ps3, etc..) each time choosing the original as the parent style.

This way if you ever have to edit the style you just edit the original/parent style and the changes will be made in all the styles under it.

You set the styles for each forum in the Forum Manager, you can set it to override the default style per forum...

You should disable letting your users choose styles or at least remove the quick style chooser (if you have it active.)
