How to change the style?

Sorry i am asking a newbie question.

1 what is the difference between Style and Template?

2 I saw in the control panel that i can upload style, when i downloaded style i found a zip file including tiny images and XML file, but, in the CP i only saw 'upload the XML file from your computer' instruction, does this mean i only need to upload XML?

I appreciate any help guys!

1. The templates, image, etc create the style.

2. There should be instructions in the .zip file. You need to upload the images as well as importing the xml
