Some members have asked for a private forum where they can discuss gaming tactics out of the public eye. I have no objection to this at all but I'm at a loss as to how to manage it. I know if I allow one more will be asked for over time so I need a handy procedure to manage this.
I'm thinking a special type of moderator usergroup which wouldn't have access to the main staff forum. They would have to be able to grant access to the forum / ban from the forum etc.
Any guidelines on how to do this or is there a plugin / mod that does this?
Many thanks,
Z

make a new usergroup and a new forum, make the forum only access by the new usergroup.

Thanks but how do I allow the mod of that forum to grant access to the user group and by extension to the forum?

You don't. Mods can't give access to private forums, only admins will be able to do that.
Another option is a password protected forum, but I've never seen one run well, the password always gets leaked...

I've seen it done on one major forum. They had a Mod Utils page and you could grant / remove access on it.
Mods could see a list of the forums they has rights over and then they selected the forum that they wished to moderate. Then they were presented with a list of the forums members and given the option to add or removes names from that list. It's simple enough really if you had any coding skill which I haven't.
Maybe I will put up a request for a coder to create this as a mod. Other people could probably use this. Some kind soul might help me out.
