This modification automatically adds in your Google Analytics Code (Asynch version) to your forum just before the </head> tag. You enable the modification and set the UA-######-# and that's it!

Please Note: This is the asynchronous version of the google analytics code. It can still be used HOWEVER there is a newer "Universal Analytics" code - this mod does not utilize the new code only the asynch code. Our newer Anayltics mod utilizes the i,s,o,g,r,a,m universal code and can be found here (http://www.innovationbyinstinct.com/cartplog.php?do=viewitem&cartplogproductid=20).

What is Google Analytics?

Analytics provides easy to use APIs and SDKs to send data to Google Analytics.

With the collection APIs and SDKs, you can measure how users interact with your content and marketing initiatives. Once implemented, you will be able to view user-interaction data within Google Analytics or through the Reporting APIs.

*This modification is auto-template therefor if enabled the asynch google code will always be there, no need for manual template edits in one or multiple styles as it's handled automatically via a plugin and rendered in all styles!

This modification is similar to BBR's recently retired Google Analytics Modification (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?p=2165189) however it's based on the new asynchronous version of the tracking code and the modification was not too complex so it was easy enough to replicate from scratch using the documentation provided by Google for the new asynchronous version.

Installation:

Import the product.
AdminCP > Settings > Options > Google Analytics
Enable the modification and enter in your UA-######-# account ID number and select other options.
Enjoy!

Why are there three versions of this available for download?

product-innovative_google_analytics.xml is the default google analytics code without additional _gaq.push settings. This is perfect for newcomers associating themselves with Google Analytics for the first time.
product-innovative_google_analytics_v2.xml is the default code with option to enable multiple domain tracking. This is perfect for those using multiple domains.
product-innovative_google_analytics_v3.xml is the default code with options to enable multiple domain tracking, disable campaign tracking, and split snippets regarding the code placement. This is the most robust version of the mod available, all additional options can be enabled/disabled in admincp options.

*Version 3 is the most up to date, features cleaned up code using one push instance instead of multiple and contains all features of its two predecessors.

Multiple Domain Tracking

Tracking Multiple Domains or using subdomains? Install the version product-innovative_google_analytics_v2.xml instead ;).

Please note: When updating from the normal version to the new _subdomains version it may take upwards of 24hrs before new information is displayed. You can change the date range in "reports" to "today" to see if it displays new information after updating the modification before it has been 24hrs.

Tagged for later use. Still using the BRR version with the modification to change it to head and not body. Still working, not sure why the coder jumped ship.

BRR has the option for Asynch and standard. Will switch to yours if it ever breaks. Thanks for picking this up!

I hated to see that, will miss BBR-APBT on here but sometimes people justify their actions when others do not so to each their own I suppose :(. I'll see about modifying so users can use normal or asynch versions however I'm not sure what was in the most recent version of BBR's mod as it was removed and the only reason I re-released it per say is so others would not miss out. Of course it was not marked as re-usable code however you can't copyright adding Google Analytics to a forum via a simple plugin method so touche' :cool:.

Hmm language differences here are making it hard for me to get the point across...

"In my opinion, since other coders who provide free translations for mods DO NOT add in extra code, it's my opinion that you should not either."

That's all I meant and tried to explain I would place the translation in the first post if you removed all the extra code, one extra line in the description is all that's required and I feel in a sense that you have done this in the past, others may not have checked to see how you modified, I however check it all before placing it under my name but enough of this it was simply a observation that I felt should have been observed however again, our language differences prevented me from getting the point across.

*Please ask a friend to translate so you understand where I'm coming from ;).

I am normally agasint addons that preform nothing but template edits, but you have at least one point (having to add it to multiple styles).

I normally get away with this by just using a personal master style for template edits.

allright i'll give it a go.I'm sure the author appriciates translation(s) of his work but as i understand you should not add(or modify existing) code he would credit you for the translation you did however if you add (or modify) the product code i see 2 problems

1) you need permission and it's obvious you didn't ask
2) by modifying the original code you make it harder for the author to provide support

that's all... no need to argue

Ensure you have the correct UA# set, I see it in the source code but make sure it matches.

Could you please explain why it is valuable to install this instead of just having the analytics code in add_footer_end ?

Recommended from what I read is before </head> and I suppose add_footer_end would work fine as well however...

- One install and updating the UA# once or editing the same template in multiple styles or messing w/ the Ad Manager that seems to have issues on every other site I encounter?
- You can simply disable the mod and no more tracking if you desire and without more edits or removal, then you can easily re-enable at any time.

I use another tracking provider. They have a code not so different that of Google Analytics. As we are searching the right style, but we need to track access, I would use your mod to manage the data.

It's possible? It's against anything you intended?

I'ts important to use the asyncronous version?

Who's the provider? Can you link to the info for it? If so I might whip up a new mod as I did here: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=265095

That way you could simply install once completed. Let me know and we'll see if it's possible :cool:.

Interesting idea. This isn't needed though.

On December 1, 2009, Google announced support for asynchronous Google Analytics tracking.

The asynchronous tracking is achieved using the async directive for the <script> tag.

Superman, Nice mod. I have tried the other mods, but, yours works perfectly.

THe mods which add the standard code to the footer caused my scheduled tasks to fail.

Your mod works and causes no issues with scheduled tasks.

Thanks Superman, I'm pretty sure I never had my analytics right, I had it in after all the header code, Having a few different templates this is a blessing. I think it is best to give 4.1.10 a miss and wait for .11.

You don't upload it to a folder. Here's more detailed instructions..

Import the xml file at: Plugins & Products > Manage Products
Then go to: AdminCP > Settings > Options > Google Analytics
Enable the modification and enter in your UA-######-# account ID number.

The code is inserted into the header so yes, every page will be tracked unless you filter otherwise in your Google analytics admin area.

Great product! One disappointment though is that I don't see the code in the archives. Would really like to track visitors to that section also.

How about the same kind of plugin for Quantcast? There are plugins for Wordpress that do Quantcast, and it would be great to have that automated.

No, but they have the additional instruction telling you how to help google pickup on your internal vbulletin searches which this mod doesn't layout

Important - In order for site search tracking to work, log into your Google Analytics account and edit your site profile. On the Profile Settings tab, set the Site Search Settings to track, with the query parameter set to "keywords" (without quotes).

OK so I installed as instructed, and wind up with this site-wide error-

"Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ']' in /home/combomtb/public_html/includes/functions.php(7764) : eval()'d code on line 5"

Im no guru but I have perused the xml as best I can, and cannot find an extra ] anywhere. Ideas?

I created a new account but the Google code is 8 characters in stead of 6. ( XXXXXXXX-1 ) Will this take a few days to show up in my Analytics account? It been around 6 hours now and I don't see anything.

usually it takes 24hs at max, but google rep stated that it may work and completely verified after 48 hrs at max.... so just wait 2 days and see how things work with you. Make sure that you get your sites verified because that is the most important step.

Hi, is there a way to get the following tag working as part of the code?

_gaq.push(['_setDomainName', '.mydomain.com']);

It tends to cause problems when sites are on subdomains and this isn't present

Sure :D - Simply download and install the new version product-innovative_google_analytics_subdomains.xml I just added it tonight and sorry for the delay I had one busy summer w/ my three kiddos ;).

Edit: Update sent out as well letting everyone know so in case some of you are using subdomains you can utilize the new version :D.

update: I've removed the old plugin and added the new one in, but I'm not seeing any code being output for GA. Is it because I removed the old one and this one is called the same thing or something like that? Or is there something I need to clear down before it works?

Hmm I'm thinking it's just the possible 24 hours to update they mention here but see the note about changing your date range in reports:

If all of these elements are being sent correctly, the data should appear in your reports within 24 hours at the latest. However, you can also check to see if data appears sooner by changing the date range in your reports to "today."

So change the date range in "reports" to "today" to see if it displays now and if nothing within 24 hours of original install let me know I'll be curious then ;).

Ah, no, crossed wires. What I meant was that the actual GA tracking code isn't appearing on my forum now since I removed the old plugin and added the subdomain one.

I had a look through the xml file and couldn't see anything that would stop it loading, so my only thought is that there is some issue caused by removing the old one. Could it just need a version number change or something? (i'm not too familiar with vbulletin plugin dev)

Well apparently I had some wires crossed in the file, improper syntax etc and forgot to register i.e. $googlesubdomain = $vbulletin->options['googlesubdomain']; as well, still chuckling about that while I sip this coffee so no twas not you twas me lol!

New version up I just uploaded the file - Enjoy!

*Ohh and a better version coming soon quite a bit of new info and customization you can do to this from what I've been reading this morning ;).

Your welcome! Mind doing me a favor? try v2 it's out now :D - What I did was remove the _subdomain.xml file and simply updated the overall product so you can enable subdomain and set it in options now ;).

Hi, I have this uploaded and I saw the update, no sub domains yet but will have. Should I upload this update anyway?

...and can you tell me do I have to take the Google id out of the Options in my cpanel?

cPanel? Do you mean your AdminCP in vBulletin? If you mean do you need to retype the UA# then no it should remain so long as you choose "Allow Overwrite" when installing the new version. The good thing about v2 is you can enable/disable multiple domain tracking in AdminCP > Settings > Options > Google Analytics :cool:

Some background on why this change to the plugin is important:

If you are running your forum on a subdomain of your main site, but you want to be able to track people landing on your forum then going to the main site, then you need to make sure the subdomain tracking is enabled.

So site is www.mysite.com and the forum is forum.mysite.com but it all goes through the same GA account and is tracked as if it was part of the same site because I'll add .mysite.com into this plugin setup.

For the forum that I've set up, it's the community part of a large ecommerce site, so it's important to track any revenue that people landing on the forum who then go on to buy something in the shop.

So now I've got this plugin installed, I'll be able to tell how much money the forum generates and which boards and posts go on to generate the sales. Very useful!

I'll give v2 a try for you and will report back.

I tried comparing the code but other than seeing they are completely different I wasn't sure if either had benefits over the other.

Actually he managed to put in the tracking subdomains and included more _gaq.push functions including tracking socials such as facebook and twitter plus no need to key in the subdomain info it auto-detects and one more thing he has it adding info about analytics to faq which I found very thoughtful honestly. Very nice mod he's made there the only difference I see is no split snippet or disabling of campaign tracking but he did place the analytics code in a template so you could actually edit the template yourself to add or remove whatever _gaq.push codes you like including disabling campaign tracking and the fact again that you don't need to key in your domain if tracking multiple sites etc is a plus.

You can try each to see which one you like better just not both at the same time but in all actuality they do pretty much the same thing in a sense however his seems to round the corners a bit better imho.

Analytics, Google style ;) if you have a google account check to see what shows up after installing this, that is if you did have one beforehand and entered in the number in settings after installing.

Hello,
In my board I have enabled tracking through vbseo wherein the setting I have included the GA code - UA -####
Also have vbSSO plugin installed for single sign on integration between Wordpress and vbulletin.

Now I have an issue in tracking registrations happening in my site.
I have a custom built sign up page with native vbulletin registration page codes. When the users come to this sign up page it triggers iframe code that redirects to - forums/vbsso/vbsso.php
Here it is considered as an exit from the sign up page and hence increasing the bounce rate for the registration page.

In such a scenario, will your plugin help me resolve the issue and track registrations happening without any anomaly? If yes, how it is advantageous to include your plugin for tracking and disabling the setting in vbseo.

Please clarify.

Hi,

I installed this mod added Tracking ID and did settings as needed in admincp. However when i go to my Google analytics. It says the follwing;
The Google Analytics tracking code has not been detected on your website's home page. For Analytics to function, you or your web administrator must add the code to each page of your website.

I checked the source code of my site and it shows there and traking id is matching as well. What's wrong here ??

Help will be appreciated.

I believe i am still on old set up because in my account, it's asking me to upgrade to universal analytics and i haven't done that yet. Even now still says the same, Just checked before replying this thread to make sure.

This mod is not updated for use with the new Universal code, see the link in the mods first post above for a link to the new Universal modification.

Discussion of paid mods is not allowed here, two year old post or not. I believe you didn't realize where to adjust the settings for this perhaps and this is the same for free or paid version same exact method to enable, that would be AdminCP > Settings > Options > Universal Analytics

*Enter in your UA id# then enable the mod and save, allow upwards of 24hrs for statistics to begin displaying in your Analytics Dashboard.

I also bought the PRO-version, but had the problem that it links to some wrong domain (universal-analytics.com).
Fixed it by replacing the GA-code with an actual version, and all is fine.

I miss some more settings, not just the UA-code, but ok... neat little product.

Hope the developers update their XML so everything works :)
