A couple of threads on my forum got closed. Neither the mods nor I have done it.

But obviously someone has.

For all usergroups I've got the close/open own threads turned off
(usergroups > {Groupname) > Post / Thread Permissions > Can Open / Close Own Threads)

How are these threads getting closed and is there a way to prevent it?

should be a admin log that will tell who did what, it has to be a mod

I have been through the admin logs. The mods and I have been discussing it privately and we're all puzzled.

Which location in the vB setting actually controls the closing of threads? The one I mentioned in my OP relates only to "own" threads. I could not find a control setting to turn on/off the ability of an entire usergroup to close threads not started by them.

Only mods can close threads that are not theirs.

When you find a thread that is closed, go to Administration > Edit and then on the bottom of that screen it will say who closed it.

If you click near the Close Thread button, it will become active. I have heard of many mods accidentally closing threads unknowningly.

Wow, you're right, it was me! I didn't know to check the Admin > Edit

Thanks for that. Mystery now solved :)

We occasionally get threads closed by users that swear they didn't. I've kind of learned to just reopen them for those users without even asking.

We do allow thread starters to close their own threads, simply because if they asked a mod to do it for them we would never say "no". So it makes no sense to force them to ask.
