Hello everyone,

I currently have a forum that is with IPB. I have grown tired of using them and everyone is asking to move to vbulletin anyway, so I am in the process of making the move. Here are a few questions I have.

1. I see I can purchase the Vbulletin Publishing Suite or the Vbulletin Forum License. What is the difference?

2. Is there a chat mod I can install on the forum so we can have a chatroom attached?

3. Is there any costs to move all of my threads and posts over from IPB?

4. About how long would my forum be down during a transfer like that?

5. I pay $20 a month for IPB to host my forum. What is Vbulletins costs?

Thanks in advance.

See this thread on the main board that we were discussing this afternon: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php/323264-Does-Vbulletin-have-Chat-Room

I'm sure there is an import script, I can't find a current reference to it, I keep finding 5+ year old conversations about it.

4. About how long would my forum be down during a transfer like that?

Well if you do it right, no down time, but you will likely want to lock the old forum for a while or you will lose data between the time you backup the data and the time DNS is updated.

You need to make sure they are willing to export the database in a standard format and give it to you. I think they will on the paid service.

VB doesn't host for you as far as I know, you purchase a license and you use your own choice of web host. Ask on web hosting talk if you need help finding a host.
