Welcome Thread Redirect by BOP5
This is the VB 4.x thread. The VB 3.8 thread is here although the code is identical:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/misc.php?do=producthelp&pid=bo5redirctonreg
Tested With vBulletin 3.8.6 and 4.0.8 and should work with all 3.8/4.0/4.1 versions released to date.
Version 0.9 - BETA. THIS IS BETA SOFTWARE. I have tested it on my test forums and 1 live forum. I do not know of any specific bugs but until I can confirm it works on more forums I will keep it marked as Beta.
Demo: http://www.juot.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19281 (You will have to register to be redirected, obviously.)
The purpose of this mod is to redirect users to a welcome thread after they have registered instead of the normal message vBulletin usually displays. The idea is to make them feel more welcome and a "welcome thread" seems more natural than a cold vBulletin generated message.
This mod can be used two ways. Stand alone this mod will simply redirect users to a specific thread you specify by threadid in the mod options.
The second and more intersting way is to use it as an add-on for another mod, BBR - Welcome Thread Upon Registration which can be found on vBulletin.org at: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=229473. This mod has been designed and tested around version 2.02 of the "Welcome Thread" mod. I do not know if it will work with any other version.
Using it as an add-on this mod will redirect users to their own personal thread upon registration.
If your forum uses Email Verification the redirect will happen after they verify their email address. If you don't use Email Verification they will be forwarded immediately after registration. The mod with auto detect your verification settings.
This mod is NOT intended to be used if "moderating" new members, I haven't tested what would happen if you have moderation enabled.
Be aware the BBR - Welcome Thread Upon Registration mod has at this time has several known bugs mostly relating to Email Activation. This mod does not cause, nor can it fix any of those bugs.
If You intend to use this mod and the "Welcome Thread" mod together you must set your "Welcome Thread" mod to always create the new thread AFTER Email Activation IF you use Email Activation on your forum.
I've done my best to make this mod fail gracefully if a setting is wrong, the user generally won't see an error message but if the settings are wrong they may redirect to a different thread or get a message that a thread is not found, but registration will still complete correctly.
This mod adds 1 phrase to the "Front End - Redirect Messages group which can be customized or translated. This is the message displayed to the user for the few seconds before they are redirected.
Full instructions are in the zip file.
Always do a backup or make sure you have a recent backup handy before installing any new mods. Use at your own risk.
The Fine Print - If any day should come that I haven't logged into vbulletin.org for over 120 days I hereby authorize this mod and any other mods I have posted on vBulletin.org to be designated "re-usable code" status so long as any mods created from them remain free and available on vbulletin.org.
If you come across any problems with this mod please post the exact version of vBulletin you are using, if you are using the "Welcome Thread" mod, If you require Email Activation, and if you're willing, the URL of your forum. This will save me from having to ask you later and prove to me you read this post in full showing me you are worthy of help. ;)

Yeah... I have a couple ideas to do away with this restriction but one would require a database change, the other wouldn't but wouldn't work for anyone who hadn't yet activated if you changed your custom titles before they activated- this probably isn't a big deal but I want to think about it more before I code it.

It is unfortunate the author chose to remove his mod. However that does not mean his code is up for grabs, if I was to make a new mod (or add it to this one) it would need to be from scratch. I haven't decided yet, if I do I will post it here. Please don't ask me in a day or a week or a month if there was any progress- if there is anything to post, I will post it, if I haven't the answer is no.

The welcome thread is a huge hit on my board and really helps new members integrate so I will keep it.
I want to add this to it but since this works with e-mail verification only I will have to wait a bit. The redirect is a great idea though and look forward to implementing it hopefully!

Not from vbulletin.org. Sometimes, rarely, mod authors upload their mods to other vBulletin related sites also so a google search couldn't hurt but it's not likely to help.

I have installed the welcome thread and this one but when a new member logs on for the first time they get this message.
vBulletin Message
Testy, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
However the same member is able to manually navigate to the thread and post in it. My two mods are setup like this

OK, it's trying to redirect to thread id 1... I'm not sure why yet but that is why you are getting the error message.
Can you PM me the site where you got the other mod, I need to confirm it's the identical mod, if something is different it may explain why it isn't working.

The BBR-Welcome on Thread on Registration isn't around anymore, so my question is do you happen to have a copy product or is there a way to modify this to automatically create a welcome thread and redirect to that thread.
BirdOPrey5
03-20-2011, 04:26 PM
Unfortunately I'm not allowed to distribute the BBR-Welcome thread mod. Other users had success Google-searching for the mod, the author may have uploaded it to other sites. Make sure you get version 2.02 though if you do go looking for it.
At this time I'm not modifying this mod to create welcome threads, I may in the future. Is it possible? Sure for someone with a good understanding of php, mysql, and vbulletin... but basically it would be like starting a mod from scratch, there isn't any code in this existing mod to actually create a new thread.
It can still be used to forward people to an existing welcome thread you created. If you want a personal touch you could you my "Advanced [YOU] BB Code" mod along with it.

It's all good I think this will work out a little bit better that creating threads that may only have replies from active members, especially if the new member decides not to be involved in the site.

Downloaded and saw your code for redirect. It is more complicated than I need. I want to redirect after registration to the Paid Subscriptions process, as all the members will need to pay to join.
I am not very familiar with vBulletin code or PHP for that matter and I don't want to mess with the way things work.
If I just make a fairly simple change like this, do I need to make a formal setup as a mod....it seems too complicated.
Since you know what you are doing would I be able to get your help with this?
Thanks!

I have downloaded and installed this Lancer for Hire mod, thanks but it did not function for some reason on my forum (and I tried everything). My forum owners also want the registration first and Paylpal second. Lance for Hire has those in the opposite order.
I thought you would be interested in assisting with a simple (or at least what I perceive to be simple) change.
The purpose for the forum is not for fun or to try to get a lot of users and it's purpose in not to make money.
It is for doctors breaking ground on a new type of treatment for neurological disorders to discuss and share ideas and findings. The low cost to join is to cover the hosting...Members would be 50 in number at most. So, in this case, it is considered that those who will join will do so for professional reasons and many of them will be invited to join.
I am guessing I should post a request in the thread for paid mods then.
Just thought you might be interested.
Thanks

I could modify my mod but I don't think it's needed.
I installed this suggested mod but it also does not have the complete function I am looking for.
No matter when you do the redirect, the new member can just ignore the paid subscription and enjoy full membership privileges once they have activated by the link in the email.
The code needs to be a little more sophisticated and turn on a flag when the subscription has been paid. This same flag needs to be checked before member is activated. I think I need the paid subscription part to actually be a part of the registration process, even on the same screen and then if they don't pay, they can't even get an activation email.
That gets a little more complicated but thanks for suggesting the redirect! It was worth a try.

I'm not using the other mod, but when I have this installed, no redirecting happens, at all.
The registration email goes out, the user activates via the registration link, and there is no redirecting.
Do I assume correctly that this mod only works if you do not use the email activation procedures?

It's supposed to work either way- but I haven't tested it on any of the newer VB releases- what VB version are you using?

How i translate this mod?
Whatever text used by this mod are in phrases (I think just Admin CP settings) so you can translate those phrases in the phrase manager if you need to. User the "Search Phrases" function to find them.

Have you considered contacting the author of "BBR - Welcome Thread Upon Registration" to see if he'll let you update and take it over?

@craigvm - I deleted your previous post because the only site you could have found the bbr welcome mod at was one that gives away pirated/illegal software and you are now allowed to advertise such sites here.
You should also be very suspect of using mods you find as such sites, they can be edited to include back doors or other malicious code that can compromise the security of your site and its users. I have personally seen mods altered for example to send a copy of the admin password to an email account anytime an admin logs in.

Hey Joe, ya think you can make this compatible with this mod, [OzzModz] Welcome Thread / Post For New Users (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=305915)
Since BBR - Welcome Thread Upon Registration (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=229473) is now in the graveyard.
I think the only major difference is in my mod, the welcome can be a new thread, or a post in a existing thread.

I just tried it thinking I could manually just enter the thread id seeing as I am using the post aspect of your mod Ozzy. It doesn't work though. Upon successful registration and log in the redirection says thread not found or something like that.
I remember using Joe's welcome/redirection mods years ago on many sites. Your mod and this would would be even better I think seeing as we can no create new posts instead of just threads.
