Postbit Tabs: What is it?
DragonByte Technologies are proud to present Postbit Tabs v1: A mini mod that uses JavaScript to organise the postbit in a tab-like fashion.

Why Postbit Tabs?

Postbit Tabs is a product that uses JavaScript to organise the postbit in a tab-like fashion, offering admins the opportunity to slim down their postbits and give it a more Web 2.0 look.

It's a powerful tool for any admin who feels their postbit has become cluttered by various modifications' additions, and who wish to regain control over how their postbit looks.

Our advanced View Manager allows admins to directly copy/paste HTML code as it's found in vBulletin templates - no special syntax is required.

If you like this mod please hit the https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2015/08/1.png button to the right ---->

Please remember to click the, https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2015/08/2.png button to the right if you installed the mod ---->

What does 'Marking As Installed' do ?

* It helps you to stay on top of updates - members who have installed modifications will be notified by us whenever new updates are available.

* For security issues - vbulletin.org will contact all members who have installed a modification whenever a security issue is brought to their attention.

* Marking a modification as installed also helps us know how many people are using our work, giving us extra incentive to provide more features and new modifications.

We appreciate the support!

How similar is this modification compared the this one:

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=237867It was based on that, and the tab blob images were used with permission, but this mod requires way less HTML editing to do its thing :)

Is this mod use for both postbit or only for postbit_legacy?We haven't tested it on postbit, only _legacy.

ROFL! I was about to call Shenanigans however you beat me to it :p.

The same idea, different ways they went about it now if DBTECH comes out with a signature version and easily enabled or disabled features such as an mp3 player and other cool tidbits of info or new features you can easily disable or disable then just be aware I posted it here first :p. Edit: I was kidding there people laugh with me :cool:.

Hehe :)

Just as an addendum: While the result looks similar to the end-user, I can assure everyone that there is no shenanigans going on here :p
We haven't copied any code, not even the JS code :)

The JS was made in collaboration with Darkwaltz4, DBTech's resident jQuery guru, conceptualised / foundation written by myself.

We've also been in contact with DigitalJedi both in public on DBTech's website, and in private communication both there and here on vB.org, so I would think he's fully aware of what has been going on with this mod :)

It looks great, but the lite version is only useful if you're already using some of the other dragonbyte mods, if you don't have any of them installed, then this product does nothing for you, right?

Seems so for the most part...

What it does is makes things EASIER for you. All of this stuff can be done by hand too. That is what I did before this mod came out.

But it means a bit more work and coding knowledge.

If you want to customize on your own, then do it on your own.

If your lazy or just don't want to do extra work. Then this mod is for you.

This mod (even lite) will allow you to grab info and display it on the postbit tabs - any info that could go into a postbit by default etc.

The pro version has some more advanced features, is more customisable and has a lot of things which aren't easy to add given options for ease of use ^.^

Also big props to Digital Jedi for the idea and the permission to use his awesome "blob" image =D

Ohh no you mistook how I meant it ;), reason I did the edit note I was simply saying it's the same although a product and shenanigans was just thrown in there because it's so similar :D.

To sum it up your right, it adds something you can modify yourself and most will customize it with their own ideas :D. I know how some feel about lite and paid versions, it's actually not allowed to be discussed here i.e. paid/commercial products only a reference in a mod listing etc however I can say this, at least a "lite" version is released of some products which in turn allows you the opportunity to use it and then customize it for your site. Think outside the box and say "hmm could I customize this mod to serve this purpose for my site?" if the answers yes then you literally saved hundreds if not thousands of dollars paying for a custom mod to be created depending on the complexity.

I think I misconfigured one thing when I tried to put the activity stuff under one of the tabs and try to remove them how they would else be normally displayed. The only option I could find to remove the normal ones was to Disable under the Activity Stats Settings. This also turned it off for the tabs.

I guess I should ask this over in the Activity Mod thread, but it kinda effected me when I tried to use this one ;-P

DragonByte Tech
02-02-2011, 06:14 PM
It'd be equally effective either way :p

Please update to the latest version of vBActivity, it's got changes to allow it to disable automatic deployment and not remove it from the tabs.

But the lite version seems worthless, unless you know what vBulletin code to apply

DragonByte Tech
02-07-2011, 06:32 PM
If you don't use any other DBTech products I guess you could argue that.

But that's like saying DigitalJedi's postbit mod is even more useless because it doesn't automatically integrate with anything, which I'm sure pretty much everybody who ever posted in his threads would disagree with you in saying :)

I only have vbshop from dbtech installed and i added tab contect quickly and easily. The one MINOR problem I had was fixed within a few minutes via support on the dbtech site.

I have the vbshop add-on running with this but thats it. Its really not difficult to sort out, and the dbtech support seriously is the best ive seen for vbulletin add-ons. Ive had questions/problems on other forums out for weeks with no response.

I am by no means an expert with vbulletin but this add on really is just as simple as copying/pasting code into the desired views. Start to finish took all of an hour for me to completley customize it for my site. And id guess I have 2-3 views per tab.

Copy / paste their postbit template into a View.

for example: http://forum.tractorfc.com/showthread.php?1573/page3036

i create 4 tab

cut codes from postbit_legacy and paste to view tab

all codes is ok

i copy thank you code :
{vb:raw template_hook.postbit_userinfo_right_after_posts}

and show thanks in tab view and normal postbit info

but when i cut this code from postbit_legacy none of info not shown

DragonByte Tech

HI and thanks for this mod. Why sint the code from digital jedi working, when i try to put this into a view

<vb:if condition="$post['age']"><div class="info">$vbphrase[age]: $post[age]</div></if>

nothing happens, it says view has been saved, but its not displayed anywhere.. I tried other common codes that Jedi left there, not one of them works..

DragonByte Tech
04-12-2011, 07:52 PM
You're mixing vB4 and vB3 syntax, which may be part of the problem.

Try using the vB4 template syntax;
<vb:if condition="$post['age']"><dt>{vb:rawphrase age}</dt> <dd>{vb:raw post.age}</dd></vb:if>

Thanks for the response Fillip, but that code doesn't work either, it now shows that the view age has been created, but when i add it to a tab, it doesnt display. Basicly i wanted to display the basic info of an user in a tab, so far i could not find proper codes to do that.. :/

Can you help me finding the codes that will work? Thanks again for your work.

Hello,
Well this should be a really easy question for people who know this stuff. I, however, don't so after 2 hours of trying I've given up. I hope someone can help me with this. Basically I'm trying to get rid of these two things: ''Points'' and ''Level''.

I've basically been deleting small snippets of the postbit_legacy template for 2 hours now but I can't figure out what to do :( (ofcourse I did put them back after seeing they dont do what I want them to do lol)

Also, another question I have is this. I want to add ''rep points: x'' and ''rep power: x'' under the green rep bar but can't do that either. Yeah I suck I know, it's my first time doing anything other than CSS though so can't figure it out on my own :(

See, this is what I get for going away right before you posted the mod. I didn't get to act all indignant and shake fists and stuff before anyone noticed. There was an actual tin can I was going to kick.

I know, I know. I'm ten. :o

I was never able to sit down and come up with a logical way to handle the tabs via the Admin CP. I like how you've handled it. I haven't got a chance to install this yet, but did you run into any issue with persistent tabs? The JavaScript I was using, for some reason I never pinpointed, kept logging people out when set to persistent.

Could it be that the cookie you were setting somehow overwrote the userid or password cookies, or some other part of it caused those cookies to be deleted?

These are the functions I use:
function setCookie(name,value,days) {
if (days) {
var date = new Date();
date.setTime(date.getTime()+(days*24*60*60*1000));
var expires = "; expires="+date.toGMTString();
}
else var expires = "";
document.cookie = name+"="+value+expires+"; path=/";
}

function getCookie(name) {
var nameEQ = name + "=";
var ca = document.cookie.split(';');
for(var i=0;i < ca.length;i++) {
var c = ca[i];
while (c.charAt(0)==' ') c = c.substring(1,c.length);
if (c.indexOf(nameEQ) == 0) return c.substring(nameEQ.length,c.length);
}
return null;
}

How is this useless? You can move any modification's code along with default vBulletin information using the same syntax as the template.

I'm curious to know what else you'd want. Critisism is only constructive if it offers advice on how to (in your opinion) improve the mod - simply saying "this sucks" doesn't help us make a better mod.

Ok i will elaborate... 1) i suppose there are 4 more ( or given number of tabs) tabs.. of which one will be showing at a time... if someone click on another tab button it will be displayed. so on next page load or refresh will the current tab switich to next one or a random one ??

2) suppose in a thread there are 5 members posted ; including thread owner's there are 6 postbits in that page... so for each one of them will this mod display same tab ( suppose tab containing posts age location etc) or random to each one ?? ( one tab with user info, for another achievement or mood etc)

3) now there are 4 tabs...there is a big dot images to switch between those.. if one for user info ( posts, age, location) and another for achievementa ( total thaks, rep etc) and so on .. so if a user hover over userinfo tab is there a alt text option to show as 'userinfo' or 'achievements'.

i dont think i can elaborate anymore.... i see you are from scotland:rolleyes:

The Pro version will remember the tab choice, the Lite version will display the first tab.

it would be nice even in pro ...random display of tabs on each page load coz some people wont even know other info in other tabs as they need to click on each tab to show them...

Hi,

I've added my ID to the config.php file as superAdmin. I've unlogged myself from ACP but still I didn't found where I can access the view manager :confused:

Thank you for your help

Hello

No one is able to tell me where the View Manager of those tabs are in the ACP?

As I've spent much time on it without success, I really wondering if this works. I'm not an expert so I'm sure I miss something but what. The mod is installed with no error, I've done the change as superuser in config.php... and still no View Manager.

Thank you for any kind of help

It's under DBTech - Postbit Tabs in the left side menu :)

It might just be too late at night to be thinking well, but I can't see the tabs I've setup. Some content from within various tabs are being displayed, but instead of seeing a selectable "tabs" buttons, I just see more of a compilation of everything I tried to separate via tabs/views. Does the display order have to be different from 10?

Is this suppose to be like this? :p

Is this suppose to be like this? :p While, as you can see, it's not hidden, we would appreciate it if you didn't post that URL and edited it out of your post. Thank you :)

How do i add more posbit tabs like gender, blogs, real name etc . please guide me briefly i am new here :(That's rather complex, you will need to create new user profile fields and add a bunch of code to Postbit Tabs (or the postbit_legacy template).

Update

Hotfix: PHP 5.4 Compatibility fixes

This does not guarantee the mod is error free on PHP 5.4, but it will take care of the reported errors. Thank you all for your reports :)

Hey! I was wondering if this was intended behavior. When our members click on a tab for one person, every user in the thread switches to that tab as well. Just wondering.
