For several weeks now a forum that I co-administrate has been pushing nearly 3,000 active members at any given time, and the server that the owner currently has which I believe to be a 12 core Intel Xenon is having a large amount of trouble handling it. We have two separate servers, one for the vB install, and one for the database, yet we still experiencing huge amounts of lag and downtime for the members. I know I don't have a whole lot of information, but does anyone have any good suggestions for dealing with so many members?

I've read that I may need to split the database onto two servers. Firstly, can this be done? What hosts support this?

I know this sounds relatively "nooby" but I'm running out of options and ideas. Any help or suggestions at all are appreciated.

Also, to the staff, although I do co-administrate the website, I am not providing the link below to advertise it, I am providing it so people may see the current situation I am dealing with. According to rule 12 of the boards, do not post any links which are PRIMARILY for advertising, this is for getting assistance, not advertising.

The website which I am speaking about is http://www.nextgenupdate.com/forums/
