3. Login to your Admincp in vBulletin and Click on "Style & Templates" to expand the menu.
4. In the expanded menu click on "Download / Upload Styles" , a new page will load.
5. In the new page look for: "Import Style XML File" click on browse and point it to the .xml file that you want to install

Nice style but I seem to have alot of issues. Logo and status icons are not showing, magnifying glass for the search button is missing and the side bar is not collapsible. Just noticed the go to last post image is missing also.

You obviously have not uploaded the smoothred image directory to the correct location.

your images should be located at images/smoothred.

So your images should be uploaded to bluegrassminis.com/images/smoothred.

There should not be ANY issues as there are very few template edits and it's mostly stylevar and css changes that wouldn't affect functionality.

Ah, I'll give that a shot. I put the files where my other styles were located.

markbolyard

Yes, I saw you had a styles directory. You can leave it there if you wish and go to StyleVars and change the image paths there. Either way would work.

I am not familiar with the 4.x.x series yet but is there an option to disable the "new forum post" right column? Is that a default vbulletin setting?

Those are blocks, they are disabled by default and the whole side column can be turned off if you wish.Looks like I need some more thread icons. Will get the done tonight and update. Looked good on my mobile too.

cool, ya I noticed a few as well, looking forward to the update :)

There is a bug in Visitor messages(in member profile). The "post messages" and "go advanced" is white and can not read.

markbolyard
01-19-2011, 01:46 AM
That's a bug in vbulletin I believe (Someone can correct me if I'm wrong) Simply click Customize My Profile when viewing that screen, adjust the colors of the profile, and save as site default. In particular, you will want to change Button text color to something like #333333

Are you running vbulletin 4.1.1? That is the version of vbulletin this style is for. I would have set that in the main description, but vb.org hasn't updated the modification options to include 4.1.1 yet.

Yep, looked at your forum. Upgrade to 4.1.1 and you will be fine.

Additional images have been added to the Zip. If you have already installed the style, simply upload the images and overwrite the old. Thank you.

I see you did the upgrade. Now you just need to download the theme again and upload the image directory. This will fix the mixed icons that are displaying on your forum in the thread lists.

This style is fantastic, cheers for making and sharing it.

3 Problems I have, grateful for any assistance:

1) If you have notifications, the notifications text is covered in a red block - this dissapears when you have read all your PM's/cleared all your notifications.

2) In users profiles, the Visitors/About Me/Friends blocks have white text on a white background and so are not visible

3) The text for the Rep/Send private message/Homepage etc. icons seem to be white on white as well under user profile

Running at http://www.essexbikers.co.uk

Cheers,
Dan.

EDIT: It seems to do it on your site too:

And if you highlight the text:

Please see this post:

That will correct the above problem. I'll look into the notifications to see what's going on with that.

This style is fantastic, cheers for making and sharing it.

Running at http://www.essexbikers.co.uk

Cheers,
Dan.

Dan, if you go to the CSS Templates, and additional.css in your style editor, look for this code:

.ad_global_header {
float:right;
position:absolute;
right:30px;
top:35px;
}

Change the top:35px to 40 or 45. That will move your banner down slightly and unhide your remember me box on your forum. Same goes for anyone else that needs to adjust banners at this position. The right and top control the padding of the banner displayed in the header. Also Dan you may want to download this style and reimport the xml as it will fix a few bugs from the version you are currently running. Upload the images folder again too if you haven't already as that will replace more of the stock icons.

Thanks Mark, you are a legend ;)

I've uploaded the new xml (and images) and the notifications issue is fixed - many thanks.
Is there any easy way to globally change user profiles to remove the white/white bug in vBulletin? If not i'll have to leave that until they fix it.

I've also moved the ad banner down slightly - didn't spot that as I'm always automatically logged in so cheers. Is there a CSS option to move the forum logo down slightly as well so I can have it inline with that banner? If you look now for example, the banner sits lower so it looks a bit odd.

I realise I might be pushing it a bit here but if there is any way you could make me up motorbike Read/Unread forum images to match your style I would be forever in your debt ;) I only have web hosting to barter with but happy to sort out anything you may need in return.

Thanks again.

Ignore that part, I just changed my own and noticed the option in there to make it the site default.
I changed all the text and link colours that where white to #3e3e3e and it looks perfect.

I'm not on my demo board so I don't know where this CSS class is defined, but the quick way to move your logo down would be, look for this code in the header:

<a class="logo-image" href="forum.php?

in front of class="logo-image" add style="padding-top:5px;"

change the 5px to suite your needs.

As for your forum markers, I'll see what I can do.

nice work!

btw, maybe it was posted, but how can I fix the profiles?
I didn't see a customize my profile link, very few members have custom profiles, can I just disable that option for all groups and the profiles will look good?

thx

Those are fantastic, thank you so much for doing that - very much appreciated. I've put them up now and they look great. Also the advice for the logo in the header worked a treat so again, thanks.

Brandon, simply go to your user profile as an admin and change all the links/text colours that are currently white to something like #3e3e3e. Next to the save option is something about making this the default for all users. Hit that and away you go.

Nice style!

Does it come with fluid and fixed versions?

Please solve the thing with the profiles for next update!

markbolyard
01-29-2011, 09:07 PM
It's Fluid, but you can make the width whatever you like with the StyleVar, and the profile text color as far as I know is a vb bug, not the style. See the previous post for setting the profile colors. If anyone knows a way around the profile text color using CSS, please feel free to offer the solution.

Macara, I don't know what you are asking.

My mistake. Should have read the thread. Got excited by the fantastic look of the skin.

That's a bug in vbulletin I believe (Someone can correct me if I'm wrong) Simply click Customize My Profile when viewing that screen, adjust the colors of the profile, and save as site default. In particular, you will want to change Button text color to something like #333333

Hi Mark

Would it be a lot of work for me to change the color red to a darker color red (#8D0000) ?
I mean only the bars where it says "Home, Forums, Blogs and Whats New" and the "Main Category Description" bars.

I have a style at the moment which is almost broken and wont be updates anymore and i am looking for a new supported style but everything i have is in that color red.
Flyers, business cards, webshop and website.

Hope it wont be difficult for me :)
Thanks

markbolyard
02-05-2011, 01:26 AM
Sure, most of the color is controlled through the StyleVars, so just go to the StyleVars of this style (and not knowing your level of experience), just go through them one by one and when you see a red one, put that color code in place of the existing red. That's about it.

SteveV
02-05-2011, 06:37 AM
Ok Thanks i have bookmarked a site stylevars.com i believe and i can lookup the bars there.

Will upgrade to 4.1.1 tonight and install the new skin.

Stylvars, then look for popupmenu_color. Warning, that may be linked to other similar popup text color, so if you change it, review the rest of your forum to make sure other links using the same class don't change (or, perhaps you will want them to be the same) it's up to you.

how can I change the thread title font color? they are in red, and when it is a new thread its a Bold Red but I want to change teh red color to something else and it isn't in Stylevar. how can one do this?

I don't know about new threads showing as bold. New or Old, both should just be regular font face and red. To change that color you would edit the threadlist.css, and threadtitle class. Again, same warning as above and that's... if you edit threadtitle, it may also affect other titles such as the threadbit class.

I'm happy to support this style for problems with this style, but unfortunately I don't have time to offer free help for customizations. As others have mentioned, using Stylevars.com, Firebug (if you use Firefox) to inspect elements for their css class, and remembering that some items are not changes in stylevar but in css templates... those three things can help you accomplish your customizations. Just keep backup copies of the style in case you make a mistake.

Hey Mark, thanks for creating this skin for 4.x. I'll be updating my site soon. Two quick questions:

1) Where did you code that the logo is at /smoothred/misc/logo.png? Because under image paths the logo image is listed as images/misc/vbulletin3_logo_white.gif.

2) Where can I edit the off-white page/body background? I'd like for it to be white to match the rest of the background on the page.

Thanks again! I'm glad to see you back on here.

You would have to go through the stylevars of the cat headers and any other header you would want to change, and set the background image to those.

You can use this http://buypoe.com/stylevars.com/forum.html for reference to find the stylevar to change. and of course, you would have to upload the old images somewhere on your forum to link to.

markbolyard
07-30-2011, 05:26 PM
Chase, I don't have this installed on VB4 yet, thus why it hasn't been upgraded... but, open the header template. Copy all the contents of the header template to a notepad file for safe keeping in case this messes things up. Once you have a copy of the header template copied somewhere, REVERT the header template. View the site and it should be fine. If not, post back here and I will look at it (and replace the header template with the backup you made).

This theme doesn't have a lot of template changes, so this should work.

This is what i did to fix my problem ... just in case if someone else comes across this problem in near future.

adminCP -> Styles and templates -> Style manager -> Edit templates (from drop down) -> Header (scroll down)

In here you can see the code for the header. Click on 'Show default', this will open another window. Copy that code from that windows and paste it into the previous window. Click save and your done.

Would happily help pay towards an updated version.

I actually abandoned the style completely rebuilt it from scratch.

Started with the default theme, took a careful look at all the stylevar changes, copied most of them, and pointed to the smoothred image directory.

I still have the occasional niggle, and am fiddling with backgrounds and foregrounds as well.

Working better for me now.

You could do the same?

Ohhh I don't know!

I was considering paying someone to update this template for me, but then I was thinking of just buying a similar template and getting the upgrades free with it.

All this stuff is free, and you have to appreciate the work that goes into it. I think this is where you need to pay for quality.
