Save images/attachements' data to database or to file system?

In admincp we have the choice to change the:
Attachements Storage Type
User Picture Storage Type
Social Group Icon Storage Type
Album Picture Storage Type
...to file system or to database.

What is the best way (especially for big forums)? :confused:

The optimal way, meaning your database will be much smaller by comparison, is to store all your images in the file system.
