I've posted this on vbulletin.com as well, but thought i'd post it here to see if i get other responses.
I have an issue which i'm hoping someone may know the answer to.
Ok, so we know that when creating and publishing an article there is an automatically generated thread in the vBCMS Comments section of the forum. I don't have this visible, but I want to use the threads that are created.
I had an idea of what to do, but discovered that my actions seem to "semi-break" the link between the article and the thread. Let me explain.
My site http://www.gamerperfection.com is about Xbox 360 and PS3 etc. I create an article about an Xbox game. I publish it. The forum automatically creates a thread for it in the vBCMS Comments section.
Now we know that if a comment is posted on the article itself that it appears in that thread also. And vice versa if a reply is made to the thread it appears on the article as a comment.
But what i wanted was to, after publishing the article, is then move the automatically created thread from the vBCMS Comments section to the Xbox section and edit the opening post to be more friendly and enticing for posts.
However, it appears after doing this that it "semi-breaks" that bond between the two.
If I reply to the thread after it is moved, then the response will appear in the thread as normal. The number of comments on the article preview increases by 1 as normal, but when viewing the comments on the article page itself the post does not appear.
Also, if viewing the article and then posting a comment, it doesn't show on the article itself, but it does actually appear in the thread. So as you can see it is "semi broken" because bits of it still work and other bits don't.
Is there a solution to fixing this because I'd like to move these auto generated threads to relevant sections of the forum and still have them fully working when posting replies / comments.
Any ideas?
P.S. I've only tested this on my test site, not on my live site.
