What do you want your mod to do? There are lots of things you can do, but you will most likely want the basic understandings of PHP and HTML. Explain your mod further and maybe we can help you.

I would also be interested in where to get started with writing plugins/mods. My mod will interface with googlemaps, deal with permissions, being logged in, etc. I've got years of programming experience with javaserver pages, c, perl, and oracle database pl/sql programming and database design. I plan on boning up on php and mysql , I just need "getting started" with plugins type of article.

Download some existing vB4 mods and take a look at how they are done. That is usually the best way to get started.
