Just redo it and dont cmd it to 777 and try again.

I ONLY did cmd the directories in the first place, vblinklist.php is at 644 and done upgrade and its still trying to open/save the file :(

The link directory has been updated to version 1.0.5. Besides fixing known bugs there are a few new functions which make the addon even more interesting like:

- Google PageRank
- Alexa Page Traffic
- 'Link-us'-function
- Additional style settings (fixed sizes for banners/images by stylevars)
- Show direktlink and thumbnails while categorie view

And some more. Please check it out, feedback in this thread is welcome. :)

Check the stylevars, stylevar group 'linklist'. There you'll find the settings for the image and the banner just like border and/or max-width and max-height.

Sorry, I made myself misunderstood, my bad. What you mention here is working like a charme and I already use it :-). So the way it goes is like uploading a temporar image untill the thumbshot has been done by the service. The link to the temp image will get constructed by the upload which needs another db-entry. Problem is: how to automatically get ridd of the image after its not needed anmyore? This has to be done manually then as otherwise I dont see a change to keep this smooth.

To add further - im worried that if i install this mod and rely 100% on it - i may in 2 years time not be able to use it as a) there no support b) the vb backend is so different it doesnt work (db names etc)

After working for some time with this mod I have to repeat myself: it's a great mod, especially regarding the fact how new it is! Please don't get me wrong, I really want to help to improve this addon, so here are a few observations, maybe you like to have a look at that and can fix a few things in the upcoming versions :-).


when you add a link into a category that has usergroup restrictions this link is still shown to everybody on WGO (a reason for me to disable WGO for now)
banner size restriction via stylvars is not having any impact on sizes, looks like it's not working at the moment
Google rankings are not working either
smilie icon in comment box is not working (probably js missing in templates)
Attachment icon is not shown in the editor of link description, would be nice if attachments would be possible as well
checking for suspect files you get this message on many vblinklist files: File version mismatch: found 1.0.0 , expected 1.0.4
Adding videos to the description bit doesn't work

so if im looking at vblinklist.php?do=showcat&catid=1 - looking at the list of links the description doesnt show the IMG or HTML code ive inserted (for an image)

Actually I once wrote an import/export-class for vBulletin (using .csv), so i can implement it if it's needed.

I am using the link directory as well and I don't have any problens with RSS, neither in the blogs sections nor anywhere else. I don't even see how the link directory should affect RSS feeds. Looks like something else is causing your issue...

Well, it depends on the server function aswell on the availability of the linked site and it it allows to fetch the informations. This function is a thing to play with but has no important binding.

Quick question ....

I notice that there's no way for someone to right click to cut-n-paste the code that appears in the Link our site Sourcecode to include in your page to link our site box area.

It doesn't seem to be recognized by the mouse, which means if someone actually wanted to use the code, they'd have to write it down, then type it manually into their web site?

Can this be made to be able to be cut-n-pasted?

I have heard more then once that google does not like link exchanges...maybe in the past it was ok
for people to provide a legit link to a website, but we know today that 99% of those that even
think about using link directories are spammers. LE's are spam magnets to drawing the wrong
type of crowd to your website, so it doesnt really matter what I think, but what does google
really think? all you need to do is search for link exchange stuff, and it will not be long before
you run across someone that thinks they know what they are talking about...so goes google
really think bad about sites that use link exchanges? I guess if anyone knows, then it will be
those that really use this, and the coder that codes a script/mod, why would anyone use
a mod if google was against it, and why would a coder code a mod if it was going to be useless with google.

Actually I dont see your problem. If there's something you dont like about the mod, then ignore it. Also the point between link exchange and google aint cleared yet, using link directories is not a problem unless you make it to your own personal problem now.

Is there a way to add a field to the new entry form? We require a link back depending on the site and would like for that field to be there so we can easily check to see if our link is on their site before we approve it. Additionally, is there a way to make it viewable (once it has been submitted) viewable only to certain groups (random guests and members don't need to see that link displayed).

I think I found a critical error ...

As a test, I exported the list to back it up, then imported it ...

Got a duplicate KEY SQL which crashed the database ...

Because of the private info that appears in the SQL error, I've sent it to you via PM....

I'm not sure why there would be an error, but it's on key 1:

MySQL Error : Duplicate entry '1' for key 1
Error Number : 1062

The only other thing worth noting is that I created the entries under by username "Badger" and then changed them using your built-in change function to appear as being entered by username "Admin", which is how it would have been saved, so I don't know if that's a factor or not.

If you read my instruction for installing the widget, you will not find anything about importing that file. Just ignore it.

That specific file could be imported with Wimpex bo Coroner, but Wimpex keeps the widgetid static and doesnt check for double templates, so it might cause errors while importing. That's why i prefer the 'manual' installation.
Is there a chance you give give me a step by step instruction how to install and USE the widget?

Open the product file 'product-vblinklist.xml' and have a look at the first lines. Change the version number of the line where you find the dependency for vBulletin:

Instead of 4.0.8 choose another version, save the product file and try you best if it works. I dont guarantee that it works, but its worth a try.

But I am wondering, is there any way to arrange the actual listings under the category or subcategory? I was hoping that at least the newest entries would go at the top or bottom, either one, but it seems to only sort them alphabetically. Is there any way I can sort them differently?

Other than not be wild about the alphabetically only choice, this is doing what I need!

I did/do have a few problems, I do not know if they are related to my verion problem or something else, so I will post them here just in case.

I had trouble with my backup/export file when I took this from test to live forums. the categories did not import properly so I had to rebuild the categories manually (making sure that the ID numbers matched those of the imported one). Once I did that I was able to see all of my entries without starting over from scratch, which is of course the hard part!

and when I approve a post (or delete a moderated post) there is an error that flashes by. Something about "cannot find phrase.... something or other". It still approves or deletes the entry just fine, but it was a bit alarming until I realized that it was still functioning ok.

And one other error... after people reach their max limit of characters (I have it set really short) they are getting a message that says they only get 6 characters, which is actually the minimum and not the maximum . But because of the error message they think that is all they get. Its confusing.

I seen this and had a look and it really caught my eyes, so I decided to give a try on vBulletin 4.1.7. All went well no problems encountered, added some links and all is fine.

However, I do have a couple of things that I seen and not sure if I missed something, but will ask away.

When you have a bunch of links you can do a basic sort like Created By/ Created at which is fine, but I would rather see the newer ones at the top of the list rather at the bottom this way when you go into the area all the newt items are on top, but the way it is now you have to go to the bottom of the page or pages. This by a nice thing to add this option.

Is there any way to let the users knows that there was a new link posted on the main forum area like in the whats new?

Did you upload the widget in the zip or did you try to make one? Make sure you added all the files needed. Look at the readme txt in each folder its in there about the widget.

I just uploaded it and it worked fine out of the box.

At first it wasn't working for me on 4.1.12 but I got it to work on that version and now it's working for me on 4.2.0. Are you getting an error?

Running 4.1.12 and can't seem to get the mod to shop up in the ACP.

Shows up under options, but I don't get the sidebar and I don't seem to be getting the complete set up options ie; category manager

Is anyone able to use the {video} tags in the descriptions to embed videos (or any other method). I can in the rest of my forum but not in the Link Directory

If the admin section is not displaying for you in the admincp, here is a quick fix.

Go to plugin manager and find vBulletin-Linklist: Can administrate linklist, under Plugin PHP Code change this:

to this:


foreach($do AS $field)
{

I installed it for 4.2 PL1 and it looks good in the default style but does not seem to be working in custom styles. Are there setting or code changes I need to make in order for it to use the custom styles?

Update: It now displays ok after I add at least one category in admincp.

Really great mod. Works well in 4.2 PL1 so far. Marking as installed and contacting you for brand free version.

Update: When adding or previewing a post I got the same error message that you addressed in post #414 and applied your fix dated : 10 Sep 2011, 15:51 . The fix worked. I guess the fix wasn't included in the updated files?

There is a link under Admin Tools to view entries waiting approval but I cannot find where you indicate that new link entries require approval and where you actually approve them?

Well vB has gone to 4.2 .... Great

I'd love to support this program - mainly because it would be cheaper than updating vBAdvanced Link Directory ever year - but ......... seeing as this doesnt support 4.2 and the author hasnt bothered responding to the questions from those that were asking whether it would or not .... I'm without a Links Directory that works properly - and your without my money ;)

I installed it on my 4.2.PL1 and the only real issue I ran into was that the display was all screwed up in my custom styles when there were no categories but it displayed fine as soon as I entered the first category.

I did not experience any issues at all when using the default style even with no categories.

If it works correctly on my 4.2.PL1 but not on yours then it may be conflicting with some other mods you have or perhaps your custom styles (if you're using any).

I should point out that mine was a fresh install so maybe it's having problems when it's an upgrade issue.

Hey Vossi,
I installed a while ago on out test server your other plugin "vBulletin-Yellow Pages" which works great with 4.2.
Is there actually a difference between those 2. At first sight I don't see anything different but before I go live with the site I want to make sure I will use the most recent one if they do the same
