View Full Version : Help With Live Video Streaming Event Forum

I'm brand new to vBulletin and would like to create a particular type of forum for members to watch and participate in live events, broadcast over live video stream (eg Ustream.tv, Livestream, etc).

Conceptually, the forum would operate something like sports sites like nfl.com. Here's an example:
http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2010121200/2010/REG14/patriots@bears#tab:discuss

From what I can tell, this requires a few changes from the default vBulletin behavior...

1) Embed a live video (eg Ustream.tv, Livestream, etc) at the top of all pages in the forum. No matter which page of the forum you're viewing, the video is always embedded at the top. I think vBulletin Polls work like this, but I can't figure out how to create my own header block with my own HTML (with the video stream embed code).

2) Comments are displayed in reverse chronological order (newest first). I can see it's possible to change the display order on a per-user basis (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=215861) but I'd need to change it on a per-thread-type basis (ie all live event forums are newest first, while other forums on the site are oldest first).

3) The comments auto-refresh, so users see new comments without having to manually refresh the page. I see some threads about auto-refresh for vB 2.0 (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?11449-RELEASE-vB2.0-Auto-Refresh-2.0) but this seems out of date (I'm running 4.1).

Can anyone help point me in the right direction on these three features?

Best regards,
Graham.

this sounds pretty cool, did you ever figure anything out?

You want Requests For Paid Services (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=30). Note that this will be a very large project, so don't be cheap.

Though really, if you alter your expectations a bit, you could probably get darn close with the CMS after you're familiar with it in a year or two.

I looked at that link and find its just a flash intro that links to the watch highlights section below the flash banner, its not live streaming at all, its all just embedding and that can be done thru widgets in CMS

also you need to check the copyright on anything NFL they do not allow any outside free distribution of their copyrighted property so unless you have a deal with the nfl i would be careful about using or streaming anything branded NFL
