Hi,
I'm a member in many forums over the internet, but so far I found no forum uses vBulletin 4.
They all use vBulletin 3rd generation.
Anybody knows exact why?

I'm using vBulletin 3, and I may upgrade it to 4.

That`s not true. Many forums runs VB4.
I have upgraded from 3.6 to 4.0.1
It was not without problems, but with today`s version (4.1.0. PL2) it should be easy task.
You can check 4.1.0 version @ http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum.php

or mine (croatian language) http://www.seljacionline-forum.com/

We're running a very success forum on 4.0.8, and will be upgrading to 4.1 in the next couple of weeks.

I am running VB 4.0.8

Pain in the bum when upgrading because not many of the mods were compatible so had to find new mods or upgrade existing ones. It is fine now all the hard work has been done. Will be upgrading soon to 4.1.0 soon.

For example: why vBulletin.org hasn't upgraded to vB 4 yet

Don't worry I got what you meant!

Maybe they think that there are too many bugs in it for now. (Just taking a guess here let me know if I am right)

Yes you're right.
In the past, I upgraded to vB 4.0.1 and I faced many problems and bugs, so I had to go back to vB 3.
I'm not sure about the quality of current versions of vB 4.

I have 3 vb sites all 3.8.
I wont upgrade any of them, I don't care for the 4.0 series at all.
The 3.8 series to me, is the best vbulletin has to offer.

Because there are bugs such as the navbar looking absolutely atrocious in Internet Explorer 7 and below and a lot of established modifications do not support vb4 as of yet. Also, if your addicted to modding your site then upgrading to vb4 is the thing to do as vb4 is usually adding new features.

Pretty sure vB.org hasn't upgraded because of the sheer amount of mods to the forum. They're still 3.6.12 for pete's sake. If they haven't upgraded to 3.7.x or 3.8.x, I certainly wouldn't expect them to upgrade to 4.x.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

They ARE looking into upgrading vb.org though:
As far as vb.org and vb4 is concerned, yes, that is being looked at in 2011 as well.

Bottom line: Too many bugs & most of the new features exist as 3.8 mods, paid or free. Besides, vb5 has been announced for the near future (more bugs and no big board tools, again?).

My 2 cents
