Hi

Just looking for ideas really.. My forum has started running very slow all of a sudden (it's been fine for years) - the hosting company claim it maybe a cache issue, but i'm not sure sure after running a test on http://www.webpagetest.org

From the screen grab attached it appears the sites slow to respond before the forum starts to load?

Be very interested to hear some comments :)

This is a bit of an open ended question and requires a lot more information before a possible solution can be found.

Looking at your forum it doesn't look like it is a large board so we could probably rule out that you have outgrown your server.

Are you on shared or dedicated hosting?

You're right, it's not a large forum and has been running perfectly fine for a long time. It's on shared hosting and i've disabled all but one or two mods.

This issue really has me beat :)

I would say it is more than likely someone else on your server is eating your resources.

If you have MSN messenger or skype PM me your username and I will see if I can help you further.

Consider moving to dedicated hosting

I wouldn't make that recommendation at all. Based upon your stats and usage there is no way for you to warrant a dedicated server I would think you could still live on shared server for many more years maybe a vps if you really want to push the boat out.

Ok, i've been advised by the hosts that the server does not have issues with performance.

What i've done is create a static index.html page that when requested pretty much comes up straight away. So, when you click the link to the forum this is where the time is being taken up.. It also makes no difference if i disable_hooks to the speed.

I've also created a new style that was created with no parent, so no template hacks and this makes no difference.

I've also moved all the attachments to a file system.

It's all good fun this :)

First, update your forum. There were tons of optimizations added to the core product...

Since it looks like you are in a shared environment, it would be kinda hard to start optimizing your server.

I agree.. there seems to be an issue with the 'vb3_searchcore_text' table crashing all the time. Sometimes it repairs and all seems ok for a while.
