Basically, it adds more words to your site so that the chance of someone searching a term in google search is linked to your site right?

Is that all it's good for?

I have a forum called The News dedicated to RSS bots.

Shouldn't the fact that my news bots are posting news from various websites be enough to increase my site's visibility in search engines?

The problem with RSS feeds is you and a thousand other people are posting the same content, so it's not unique, which means search engines basically ignore it.
