I'm thinking of adding this mod so that I can use the forum on USENET. I'd just like to find out from others who might have tried it if it bring any noticeable benefits, and if its actually worth doing...

There was only 1 forum I had ever been to that did this and after just checking it again they seemed to have dropped usenet support at some point without me even noticing. I can't imagine there is any useful content left on Usenet besides binaries these days.
Have you tried looking into RSS feeds? They can be a good way of spurring conversations and bring in new threads/posts.

Yes, the other form of 'traffic building' I am doing is with RSS. I personally go to each article and post an excerpt on the forum. The problem is that its a niche forum, so the content is limited.
What are binaries?

"binaries" are when people attach files to articles, you download "binaries" - could be anything, usually mp3, movies, and porn these days.
