Hi,

Is there a way to move members to another usergroup via promotion and it be instant?
I've noticed that the current method is done via a scheduled task.
How can I make it instant without impacting my forums performance?

You could use a mod like vBExperience and setup promotions with it.

And how do you mean instant, it is done by a scheduled task so that no members are left unpromoted. To do a check on every user will mean an even greater impact on your forum's performance.

All I want it to do is when a member is promoted it happen there and then, rather than waiting for the scheduled task to run to do the promotion.

I understand, but there's a reason it's done that way. It is to ensure there's not too much load on your server because of this..

Imagine a scenario when your userbase doubles or triples from what it is now.. The queries that need to be run will increase exponentially too.. Scheduled task would be the best way to go (IMHO)..

so lowering the time the schedule is set to run would be more advisable?
