I'm launching a new project to which I'm using vBulletin 4.0 publisher which of course has improved SEO capabilities vs its previous versions.
Now one thing I am wondering about is if it is worth it to purchase vBSEO for vB 4.0... I'm reading thru it and I see some improvements.
Realistically, is it worth it's price for vB 4.0??
Please let me know your honest, non-biased opinion/thoughts?!

Not needed. Just make sure you configure everything correctly for best results.

All you need are keyword friendly SEO slugged urls... which VB4 already has built in. Everything else is snake oil. The way search engines work these days are with "linkbacks". The more OTHER websites that mention your website, the higher your rank will be. This is one of the reasons why signature spam bots are so prevalent; they don't want to spam your users; what they want is the links in their signature to mention other websites and boost the search ranking of those websites.
Nothing that VBseo can do will be able to get other websites to mention your website... short of creating its own bot network to spam your website on other forums and blogs. FaceBook integration is a good way to create linkbacks, as it lets people mention content from your website onto facebook.

I already made the facebook app and facebook connect intergrate with my site... that feature is AWESOME!

VBSEO would say they out rank VB's SEO...
I have it none the less, so I use it.
But I would never recommend any new forum to buy it...
It is not going to turn a new forum rags to riches by any means...

See I just can't see the justification of spending $ 150 on a product that not only hinders performance on your server, but is also available for free in other solutions; built into vb4 itself. Vbseo is not going to magically make your website more popular like it claims it will... and I am always wary of anyone who promises you the moon, when you know they can't deliver.

thats right, what we need as vb users is a link exchange that will do what JAXEL IS TALKING ABOUT, in the old days we called them webrings, so if we had a page or template just hidden in our sites that had each and every members link in it that would be thousands of links for each vb site :>

The ironic thing about it... back when Webrings were popular, this is NOT how search engines worked. Back then, search engines sorted by meta information and general popularity; webrings had zero effect on the standing within a search engine. Now that the function of a webring is more powerful than ever, no one uses them. Hah!

well if you write the code i will install it :>
I'm thinking that a webing button forward and backwoods to our sites, when you install it, it will add your link to a page that spiders can find but not users.
kind of with no tab or button to go to it.

The hiding the links from visitors but not search engines part doesn't sound like too good of an idea.
But if someone made a script that constantly checked (once every 6 hours or so) the vBulletin Link Directory like this category for computer games then it would be doable,
http://www.vbulletin.com/links.php?linkcatid=computer_games
However depending on the site, make sure you pick the right category from here
