Grid css way above my head, please help me?

I've never been very good with css. I have a good idea for a layout, but the css is way beyond me.

What I am looking to do is to have a spot for four widgets on the left (for news feeds), just above the Primary Content widget, with the side bar on the right, as it is in the image below.

Can someone help me with this please?
