View Full Version : Few things I need - permissions

I'd like to know if vBulletin or some modifications allow the following:

Preventing an usergroup (or alternatively users with less than X posts) from posting in threads that have more than Y posts.
Preventing guests/usergroup (or alternatively users with less than X posts) from viewing links, but being able to view images (i.e. they can view thumbnails, but not the linked full images)
I know this is partially done by VSa - Advanced Permissions Based on Post Count, but it hides both links and images, without a way to separate them.

Setting a time limit after which user can no longer edit/delete his own post.

Could you please be more specific and point me to the appropriate vbulletin documentation or modification?

I may assume you'll be using vB 4.x? If so, then here is an add-on that might be useful to hide links (and more) from guests and/or controlled members: clicky (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=228228). If not, then check this one: clicky (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=222216).

Setting the time limit in which a user can edit a post is a default vBulletin option (in vB 3.8.x anyway, haven't tested 4.x myself). And as for the first point, I guess the aforementioned VSa modification should work: clicky (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=233979).

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I want to purchase vB 4.x
Unfortunately the MARCO1 Hide All addon hides the images inside the url tags along with the links, which is no good for me - I'd like the link to be removed, but the img left intact.

I can see there is indeed option for editing post time limit, can't find one for deleting post though.
And VSa doesn't allow setting permissions based on number of posts in a thread.

You would have to use bbcode for the links

But as your posting on "vBulletin Pre-Sales Questions" thats all i can say right now :)

Also all you have asked for can be done Default no need for extra mods
Using Usergroups

The links would be using BBCode.
For example I'd like this: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/ (http://example.com) to be visible to guests & members with 0 posts as https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/

Well, the full documentation is public, so I don't see the need for secrecy.
My decision about which forum software I will purchase will be based on the software meeting my needs, so I need to be sure first.

I think you're wrong.
All that can be done is automatically put members with X amount of posts in an usergroup.
But the specific permissions I require are not possible in default vbulletin.

Yes,Yes and yes :)

That's news to me... how would one go about:
Preventing an usergroup (or alternatively users with less than X posts) from posting in threads that have more than Y posts.

I've never seen that option.

AdminCP
Make a usergroup without "premissisons on some forums"
User promotions move them after X posts to new group which allows users to post in Y Forums

Yes you can just Block the URL BBcode from guests / usergroups

There is not default option to prevent posting in threads with less/more then X numbher of posts. This would require a modification.

You're completely ignoring what he actually requested... Let me put it in a big font because bold didn't work...

There is no way to limit people by post count a user from posting in a thread with a certain number of posts. He's not asking about forums, he's asking about threads.
