View Full Version : Any Mod for Banner Management & Visitor Data Logging?

I require a very simple banner ad management system, which allows me to put designated ads into designated spaces in vbulletin CMS and forum.
The following are the base requirements:
1. Able to designate what image to show at a specified location
2. Able to log number of clicks per period
3. Able to log number of impressions per period
4. Able to log visitor data, such as ip address, date/time clicked/impressed, browser used, country info etc.
Any recommendations on a suitable system that I can use for this?
I was referred to OpenX but found that overly complicated (its more suitable for a large number of ads and providers and sites) and couldn't display (4) for me.
I require only a few ads on one site but detailed stats for that particular one.
Thanks!

Rotating Banner System will do #1 (and maybe so will the default vb ad system), but I've never seen any mod that would do 2-4. I agree if you really need all that (for what?), then a complicated solution like OpenX is what you're looking for.
I suppose you could figure some of that stuff with AWstats though.

Unfortunately, OpenX is complicated in the way that I don't need. It is complicated cos it can handle a lot of banners from a lot of advertisers across a lot of sites. Yet, despite this, its stats logging and reporting mechanism is rudimentary at best; hence it doesn't do what I require well, and is overly complicated in the areas that I don't require (I only have one site, 2-3 advertisers and 2-3 banners at most).
Rotating Banner System (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=188328) will do #1 (and maybe so will the default vb ad system), but I've never seen any mod that would do 2-4. I agree if you really need all that (for what?), then a complicated solution like OpenX is what you're looking for.

You really don't need 2-4 anyway. That data just doesn't mean very much. One person saying "I heard about you on the forum" is worth 10,000 impressions. But much harder to get.

How about any third party software (like OpenX which I tried and rejected) that can do 2-4?

The data may not mean much not to you (or even me), but means a lot to the advertisers for which I am placing the advertisements for who always ask for such data. I guess its not so much about what it means, but how I can get it.

Not that some just don't know what online ads are all about.
The mod I mentioned tells you impressions and clicks. But maybe I'm just lucky, or I've got them primed, but I've never had a single advertiser ask for impressions or clicks.

Well, if they ask for it, I have to give it to them or they will go to another person who can give it to them.
I thought you said earlier that the Rotating Banner Mod does not give me 2-4? yet your post below says "The mod I mentioned tells you impressions and clicks"

No, if they ask for it you only have to explain that it's their responsibility to log clicks on their end. Then explain why clicks aren't as important as driving them to the top of the search engine results.
2-3 You asked for 'per period'. I suppose the mod will do that if you manually reset it 'per period'. 4 asks for really esoteric stuff like IPs. I don't think it will do that, but I dunno - try it.
