Ive not removed anything... i run a custom footer, so maybe it's that.
Strange. The mod should add it automatically. I would check to see if it has been disabled in the mod.

Not really sure why they would all show as red (assuming the mod/admin groups are set right) to be honest... Can you try using this usermap.php file and see if it changes anything?

For some strange reason the attrib and navbar link plugins were disabled, i fixed it.
I dont think this would cause any issue with the product however, so any advice on that welcome too.
Thanks.

Hmmm... is anyone else seeing a similar issue? Not really the easiest thing to debug since it's working fine for me, and the install package is literally a copy of the files we use.

I have edited this addon to work without the requirement of having the PHP Extension installed on the host. It was actually very easy with the php available at the GeoIP site.
Anyway, I sent the modifications (which is really just two lines in usermap.php) along with the extra necessary files, to digitalpoint. I'm not going to post it here without his approval (to avoid confusion); however, if you want to PM me, I will forward you the same message I sent to him.
You can see it on my site at http://www.isxgames.com/forums/usermap.php

Shaun,
The file states it is version 1.03 but the xml inside it states it as 1.02 so it shows up in the version check as being an old version.

I though this was fixed. I am getting these errors when viewing the map and there are no spiders or users online.

Ick... okay, I think I figured out what went wrong. For some bizarre reason I had two different usermap folders on my dev server and I zipped up the wrong one. Uploaded (hopefully) the right one now. :)

Can someone please write a usermap that shows the usernames of the users and actually works?
I tried this, had my web host download the PHP and data files and nothing.
There was no support.
Plus my users want to see where each other live and don't care about "privacy issues". I would pay for someone to write one that does this and works instead of this POS.

Calling this mod a POS isn't going to get you anywhere. It works great!
And, Shawn, all is right with the world again. Thanks for the update, sir. ;)

Here is my question:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=244236&highlight=ip-+monitor&page=16
And the response from the coder:
"I don't know why it wouldn't work"
And my request that he contact my web host, because of info he asked for that I simply don't have access to. It shouldn't be supported if it doesn't work universally. Three stars, and doesn't even deserve that. Yep, a POS alright. Worst mod I have installed from here. Others worked like a charm.
Someone please write one that WORKS...and shows the users by name. "Privacy concerns" is not a reason to exclude this functionality.

Giving users an option in their profile/setting to have their Username displayed on the map (or not) might be nice.
Display Username on User Map: yes/no (default = no).
I do have to agree with Boofo, that being derogatory isn't going to have any positive effect.
The fact that this Mod is working for others tends to suggest that the issues you're having are somehow related to your specific installation... since this is not a paid for Mod, pointing the coder to your host and barking "fix it" is not likely to get you any support, let alone the support you imagine you should get... then add to that, that you're bagging his Mod (that works fine for others)... that's kind of a bridge burning move.
The old idiom of; 'You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar' certainly applies here.

I would as it is now the correct file that should have been in there. Plus, if you ever run into a situation where they are no users online, you won't get the errors I was getting. Better to be safe than sorry. ;)

Did you read my original question, or just ignore the link to post your biased opinions supporting this erm, mod?
Asking nicely, pointing the coder to the web host who can answer his questions, got NO response. Is that what you call support for a mod? I don't. I call it throwing up your hands and ignoring someone with a problem with the mod. The problem was beyond my ability to diagnose and required more information that only the web host could give him. I directed him in that direction and got dead silence. He didn't bother to contact my web host, just moved on like it didn't happen. That is BS.
The fact that this mod "works for some" isn't exactly a glowing endorsement, except by fellow coders and friends. The mod should work for everyone. And the fact that it doesn't and has issues you fellows are still talking about only proves the point.
So far, I have downloaded and installed "DownloadsII", "PayPal Donation", "Newsletter" and one or two other mods without an issue. So obviously, I am capable of installing something that works.
As for burning bridges gentleman, I uninstalled this piece of crap from my site a while ago because it didn't work, and I was getting no help from the coder. My users are still asking me for a member map for our site, particularly one that identifies the users by username. (They feel that the coder's "privacy issue" is no issue to them and want that option). I write in the hope that some talented coder can write one that works for me and most everyone else, and has the feature that you agree would be good to have and be able to toggle on/off.
Time to sweep a mod that "works for some and not others" and is unsupported into the trash and come up with one the caliber of DownloadsII, PayPal Donation, Newsletter, etc that work when you install them. Not all of us are coders or techies to be able to diagnose and fix the bugs that prevent this desireable yet flawed piece of programming waste from functioning.
This will be my final say on this, so feel free to flame if at will. I speak candidly and from a desire to have something that works and will please my users.

Display Username on User Map: yes/no (default = no).Yeah, something like that would be the *only* way we would display the username. It's just too much of a privacy issue for it to not be "opt-in". On top of it, it would require quite a bit of changes... most notably, we couldn't consolidate pins anymore (two people from the same city current generate a single pin).
Not sure it's really worth all the work that would be required to be honest...
Shawn, do i need to reimport or just uplaod the new php file since the update a few days back?
Thanks.Just the new PHP file is fine. Even then, you aren't going to see the errors in the old one unless you have 0 people on your site (guests/members/spiders, etc.)
Did you read my original question, or just ignore the link to post your biased opinions supporting this erm, mod?
Asking nicely, pointing the coder to the web host who can answer his questions, got NO response. Is that what you call support for a mod? I don't.More like when I asked you to look at your server logs to see why your server might be throwing an internal error you expect me to call up a guy at your hosting company because you don't want to do it...
I can help people, but when user's I'm trying to help don't want to do it and pass me on to someone else, not really going to go out of my way, sorry. :)
If your server does not support geoip PHP extension, there's not a lot I can do to help you. If you could get at the server logs, it probably would tell you exactly what the problem is so your hosting company can fix it for you. But either way, there's nothing I can do within the addon itself that will make geoip extension work (or be installed properly) on your server if it's not already.
It's kind of like trying to run a PHP script without PHP installed on your web server and then blaming whoever coded the script that it doesn't work on your server.

It's BS because something that was offered free to you doesn't work exactly how you expected it to work, even though prerequisites are specifically stated? Why should Shawn have to contact your web host?
So far, I have downloaded and installed "DownloadsII", "PayPal Donation", "Newsletter" and one or two other mods without an issue. So obviously, I am capable of installing something that works.
Congrats? Obviously you never saw how mods used to have to be installed in early vBulletin days.
As for burning bridges gentleman, I uninstalled this piece of crap from my site a while ago because it didn't work, and I was getting no help from the coder. My users are still asking me for a member map for our site, particularly one that identifies the users by username. I write in the hope that some talented coder can write one that works for me and most everyone else, and has the feature that you agree would be good to have and be able to toggle on/off.
Do you really expect someone to just give you a solution with an attitude like this? You come here with the expectation of getting things for free. You're also calling someone who has many people in the vBulletin community's utmost respect bad at what he does. I'm pretty sure Shawn knows more about vBulletin then the current vBulletin developers.
Wow. You don't need to be a coder to understand how something works. It's like winning a car and then getting mad at the person who gave it to you for not understanding that it needs gas, even though it's clearly understood that cars need gas.
When you've been involved with this community for as long as some of us have, spent tens of thousands of hours on your site, and/or thousands of dollars on custom modifications, servers, and everything else, then you maybe can complain a little bit. If anyone should be complaining here it should be Shawn for having to deal with shi**y people like you.

This is a great mod. I have a question. If I have only one admin or mod on the site why does it show so many red pins?
I went to admin setting and only added the one usergroup as admin.
Does this thing cache somewhere?

That is a board leader.
On the map it shows a bunch of reds. About 20 of them. But we only have 2 leaders. I even removed all numbers from settings and it still showed same number of reds. Does it cache somewhere or something.
This is a very private site for pregnancy issues. I hate to post a link to it.

What do you have set for the cookie timeout?
digitalpoint
01-02-2012, 10:05 PM
The code itself doesn't look at secondary usergroups, so you can rule that out.
Let's see if it's the setting first of all...
In your usermap.php file, if you change this:
$admins_mods = explode(',', $vbulletin->options['digitalpoint_usermap_admins']);
to this:
$admins_mods = explode(',', $vbulletin->options['digitalpoint_usermap_admins']);
print_r ($admins_mods);
It should barf out an array of usergroup IDs that it thinks should be mods/admins.

I'm not saying they lied to you... just that they are mistaken about it being installed. Probably they thought they installed it, but for whatever reason it's not installed properly.
You could try a stand-alone PHP file with any of these functions...
http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.geoip.php
If the server tells you that the function isn't available, well... it's not available/installed.
The simplest one would probably just the be the call to get info about the geotargetting database:
<?php
echo geoip_database_info();
If that PHP file throws an error, ask your hosting provider why that would be if it's installed. :)

While I got you here I wanted to thank you for the program. It is nice.
I can click on the online users link and see this user's IP address. 98.249.54.16
When I lookup the IP it shows culpepper virginia
On the map no pin is any where near virginia.
Does that mean the ip is not in the geoipcity.dat file?
So I couldn't add to the usermap.php 98.249.54.16 and show this pin on the map?

culpepper virgina.
Also in the session table it has that address.
I checked with phpmyadmin with cpanel.

I, too, could not see a map; I turned on PHP errors then saw an error concerning GeoIP and not being able to find GeoIPCity.dat. Unfortunately, GeoIPCity.dat is not free, but GeoLiteCity.dat is, so I downloaded it then created a symlink from GeoIPCity.dat to GeoLiteCity.dat. Voila! Now works.
Thanks for the addon!

Hey DP -
I know you still have the original version (http://tools.digitalpoint.com/geovisitors)of this program available on your website. Is there a way, or a version, of this cool forum version to use on my site's home page? The difference being that your original puts the map on your site, while this forum version puts it on our site. I would be willing to pay for something like that.
I hope that makes sense. Thanks!
digitalpoint
02-17-2012, 05:02 PM
Not sure what you mean? You want your map to show on our site?
tsptom
02-17-2012, 05:39 PM
I knew that was clear as mud... :)
Unless I am doing it wrong, your original version (Geo Visitors) sends the user to http://tools.digitalpoint.com/geovisitors where the map is displayed.
This forum version puts the map on a page within our own forums. (www.mysite.com/forum/usermap.php)
I would like to use the original program and have the link on my homepage (non-forum) send the viewer to a one of my site's pages (ex: www.mysite.com/usermap.php) instead of http://tools.digitalpoint.com/geovisitors.
My site has many more pages outside of the forum but I believe this forum version only accounts for IP's on the forum.
I assume that the reason the original version takes us to a DP page is to bring in more traffic, which is why I would understand paying for a version that puts the map on our own site.

GeoIP install is verified, it's showing up in php.info. I'm not seeing any errors. The page loads but the map isn't displaying.

digitalpoint
06-25-2012, 03:10 PM
Hmmm... everything looks like it's installed okay, but for whatever reason, the geoip extension on your server doesn't seem to be resolving IPs for some reason.
Can you make a simple PHP script to test the actual geoip functionality? See this post.
cherylferraro
06-25-2012, 05:34 PM
I put my own ip in that php script and it comes up blank. Seems like it is the server.
That site uses Cloudflare, reverse proxy. I added mod_cloudflare to httpd.conf which enabled vbulletin to log user IPs instead of cloudflare's, but it looks like it probably doesn't work with geoip.
To see if it would happen on a site that wasn't coming through cloudflare I tried the script on another domain that is on the same server. It didn't work there either.
I've got a couple of sites where I'd really like to install the map so I'll contact cloudflare and see if they have any suggestions. If there's a solution I'll post it here. Thank you for taking a look.

Depending on the version of Linux you're running and whether or not it was installed using an RPM for that package or some other source, it could also be in usr/share/GeoIP.
But, digitalpoint is correct about having to re-compile it if you move the database.
digitalpoint

The DB is not located *anywhere* by default... you need to install it (it comes from maxmind.com).
On a side note, you *can* change the default directory location I found out with a php.ini setting:
[geoip]
geoip.custom_directory=/yourdirectory/

just reinstalled this and it wouldn't work (page loaded but no map) without these two lines in php.ini
extension=geoip.so
geoip.custom_directory = /usr/share/GeoIP
hopefully this might help some people

Fatal error: Call to undefined function geoip_record_by_name() in /home/astrokee/public_html/forum/usermap.php on line 100
I try to get them to install geoip but they want to know this:

Our server is running cPanel and I installed the net-Geoip package using Pear. I am guessing that I need to get the other one and install it. (Net_GeoIP 1.0.0)
I had hoped they were the same. :(
The mod does not link anything into my Navbar and I get a blank page if I create a link for usermap.php under Community and click on that.
We have an app running under Joomla on the same server that provides a Google map view of our business members. It would be nice if there were something kind of standard out ther for this type of work.

Not sure if this is still supported. I also get a page loaded with no map.
php.ini updated with:
extension=memcache.so
extension=geoip.so
;geoip.custom_directory=/usr/local/share/GeoIP
GeoIP installed (seems to be working).
<html>
<body>
<?php
$country_name = apache_note("GEOIP_COUNTRY_NAME");
print "Country: " . $country_name;
?>
</body>
</html>
Returns "Country: United States"
Reinstalled software (just in case).
Any ideas? Thanks.

Looks like maybe you don't have the GeoIP city database installed (the country database is different)?

Does this mod use the GeoLite2 databases or the Legacy GeoLite databases?
If I were to use the new GeoLite2 databases would it work?
How often are you downloading and updating the databases?

Hi
I have installed the Script and the Map will no shown.
Geoip is installed.

geoip extension version 1.0.7
geoip library version 1004008
Directive Local Value Master Value
geoip.custom_directory no value no value
What can i do thats the Map shown for my Forum?
The URL is:
http://wxforum.de/usermap.php
/usr/share/GeoIP/GeoLiteCity.dat exist
http://wxforum.de/test.php (for IP Test)
better - looks to me like geoip isn't installed (at least not completely).
