Random Questions: What is it?

DragonByte Technologies is proud to present version 1.0 of [DBTech] Random Questions.


The Random Questions mod is intended to increase activity in your forum, attract back old members, and encourage members to form friendships (and thus stay).

It accomplishes this by allowing/encouraging users to answer random questions about each other. The questions are settable by the admin (5 included in the Lite XML as an example). The questions can be anything from ?What do you think {usernames} favourite game is?? to ?Do you think {username} Wants a pet dinosaur??. These questions usually serve to bring random people closer together, and have people communicate with each other who otherwise might not have. It's a great way to inspire closer bonds in your community (And, of course, having friends is one of the big reason people stay on forums).

What does 'Marking As Installed' do ?

* It helps you to stay on top of updates - members who have installed modifications will be notified by us whenever new updates are available.

* For security issues - vbulletin.org will contact all members who have installed a modification whenever a security issue is brought to their attention.

* Marking a modification as installed also helps us know how many people are using our work, giving us extra incentive to provide more features and new modifications.

Answer Rating: You can rate the answers people have given you via your own profile. Let people know what you think of their answers!


v1.1 Features:

Random Questions: This lets users click on a tab to start answering random questions about other members, anything from should they post more, to what animal would they be. The questions load in realtime AJAX, and after submitting an answer, a new question will fade in.

Notifications: Users are notified whenever a new answer is submitted about them, letting them keep up to date on what people are saying about them!

Profile ?Answers? Tab: Adds a new tab to the profile letting you keep track of what answers have been made about you.

Permissions: Set who can use the mod, exactly what answers they can see and what options are available to them.

Question Manager: Allows admins to add, edit or delete questions to be asked. You can add an Unlimited number of questions in here


Extra Pro Features:

Extra Privacy Options: Set whether your answer is public or private, per answer. This lets you answer a question about someone without the rest of the forum seeing what you said.

Specify who to answer about: This lets you choose who you want to answer questions about ? Everyone, Friends, Online users or even specify a particular person!

User Options: A variety of extra options for users, allowing them to submit questions for consideration, toggle the notification on new answers and more.

Requests: Lets users send PMs requesting specific other users answer questions about them

User Limitations: Require X posts to have questions answered about that member, require X answers to see answers about oneself.

That's not really the intention of the mod. Our plan with this was for it to be like the facebook application, a place where people can go to kill time.

When I installed. Have the red X's for the avatars and My who's online went blank. Might be mix matching with one of the other mods. Anyways I like this mod but had to disable until update then try again. Sorry DragonByte Tech

Nope! When installed you can?t change your settings (options)n in the usercp because of this error:

Is there a way to have only members that post show up? I have a lot of members that registered and never come back.. Then it always goes to them. How about an option like members with so many posts..
Just asking.. Works great for me but the red x for the avators when the people don't have one..

I had to disable this as it was breaking the Activity and Status Update tabs in users profiles.

I'm not sure if it was just a coincidence that it was these two tabs or if it would have broken any tabs placed after the Random Answer tab but it was causing them to be blank.

The other tabs displayed perfectly again after uninstalling this mod.

Hopefully it is something simple to fix :)

Random Questions has been revamped and updated to v2.0, and now contains new features like rating answers and more options for deciding who to answer questions about etc.

Do you have vbsupercharged installed?

it has known issues with javascript, and is likely to be causing the problems.

I would like to make this feature more visible for my members maybe you have add a feature in the admincp where we can set the random questions in various location such as postbit
near there member name so a member can just click and answer a question about this member.

I would also like to see a vbadvanced module to for this mod.

This means that you do not have all the files uploaded either at all or you have them in the wrong place. Please check you have all of them uploaded.

The request feature was just something I forgot to take out. I'll release a fixed version soon.

Also for the bug you have, I will look into this right away.

Any update to this Mod to address the issues, personally you should release the full version here free so its fully tested and then allow people to donate so that you can work out all the bugs before charging for a script that is not complete. Sorry my .02

Could you try reinstalling the mod now. Overwrite every single file and reimport the product file. I had a similar bug that you mentioned a while back and doing that fixed the issue for me. If that doesn't work, could you PM me your site url and the login information of a test account.

I just re-uploaded the files and imported the plugin with overrite checked I will PM you the site URL and login of a test account right now.

Just uploaded a small maintenance release. The issues with the submit button should be gone now and the request link is gone from profiles.

That is because you haven't overwritten all files. You need to reupload all the files.

Read the first post, so you'll get familiar what is free and what is only in pro version. If you like or need this mod, you'll probably buy it, as there are so many useful things only in pro version.

Good thing is that DBTech is very fast in solving of all bugs in their products. You only need to report bugs, preferably on their site (because of vborg rules they can't support here their pro versions), and you'll see that they'll be solved pretty soon. :)

I have an odd issue with some of your mods... they are not getting added to the Navbar automatically. This one suppose to add a link in navbar - but it's not doing... I have the same issue with your other mods ...

Not all of the mods have been updated since vb4.2 was released. Many of their mods have in fact been updated, but not all yet.
