Users' forgotten password/changed email address

Lately, we have a fair amount of users that have forgotten their passwords. Problem is, many of these users haven't logged in in ages and they have changed their email addresses.

Obviously we could manually change their email and/or passwords, but we're not comfortable doing that - we have no wait to authenticate our users otherwise.

How are others handling this?

That's a very good question. I have never run into this myself but I would say that they need to re-sign up with a valid email address and be told to tread carefully. All it takes if giving one person access to what they say it their old account and finding out later they are not who they said they are.
