What are we changing?
We are moving all of our bug tracking from using vBulletin?s project tools to using a product called jira.
What is jira?
It is a commercial scale tracking and issue management program: http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/
Here is a video on some of the use of it: http://www.atlassian.com/software/ji...a-overview.jsp (http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/videos/jira-overview.jsp)
Why?
In an effort to expedite the rectification of bugs, improve the transparency and the communication around the way they are handled and the management of how in which they are assigned and fixed.
It will also have improved functionality for adding screenshots, more concise categorization, and better reporting.
How will this affect me?
Hopefully not at all. It will be a different interface ? but it has greater functionality.
We have migrated all existing bugs that were reported in the project tools based bug tracker to jira. You will not need an additional login to use jira, signing into vbulletin.com will sign you into jira.
When?
Our intention is to make an alpha version publicly available for feedback and testing on Monday 5/24/10 ? we will make this available with a slightly dated dataset.
We will still be using vBulletin?s existing project tools for the reporting of any bugs during this period.
We then intend to launch a beta version on Thursday 5/27/10
As part of the launch, we will migrate all of the bugs from the bug tracker, redirect all of our links to the bug tracker to the new JIRA product, all existing bugs will still exist in the bug tracker, but they will not be able to be updated.
More details please?
I aim to have more details for you when we get closer to next Thursday, including some documentation on using the product.
I have some questions and/or feedback
Its welcome!
Feel free to post it here (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?352459-Feedback-thoughts-comments-on-jira-issue-management&p=1983007#post1983007).
