If your forum has never been vBulletin 4.x, how come you have a file from vBulletin 4.0.2 uploaded to your /includes folder?

You may want to go through the results of the "Suspect File Versions" in the Diagnostics page under the "Maintenance" AdminCP group and ensure you know what each of the files that aren't recognised as being part of vBulletin 3 :)

I've been thinking of using this on my forum but there's a couple of problems with it.

If the @name; is used, it will at first work, sending a new mention to the user and the code is proper in the thread. However, refresh the page and it undos the code, making it name as actual text in the post. The pm that the user receives also gives an error page, or links to the profile and there is nothing there.

Has this error been produced before and perhaps solved?

We are running vb 4.2. patch level 3.

That sounds like a conflict with another mod that parses BBCode. Do you have any other mods installed that modify the postbit output in some way?

There's nothing that I can currently think of that would mess with bb code that we have installed. A quick run through the mods, and I could only imagine vBSEO perhaps having a problem with it.

Can you try duplicating your forum files & database onto a subdomain and disabling all products other than AUT?

Are you running a mod that moves JavaScript like vB4 SuperCharged? If so, please disable it. You should never be running any such modification as they will cause issues like these.

Thank you for the quick reply Fillip! After following these steps, the @users feature now works for usernames of two characters or more:

1. Admin Panel/vBulletin Options/User Registration Options/Minimum Username Length and set length to whatever you want your minimum length to be.
2. Admin Panel/Maintenance/Update Counters/Update User Names

Hope that helps anyone who comes across the same issue.

I see you can mention @usergroup in pro but can we mention @social groups? I'm an admin on a gaming site where multiple clans meet....would be nice where they can create their own social group(clan) and then use this function to mention all members at once.

To be honest I'm not entirely sure whether "@username" would work with this mod. It would always try to mention the user called "username" if someone referred to that user without intending to mention them.

I found two bugs:

1. If you're a staff member (Kier for example) and mention a regular user (Mike for example) in a post inside staff only forums Mike will not get the alert through vBulletin's notifications system but at his profile he will see something like this:

17:46 - Kier mentioned Mike in post

If Mike doesn't have permissions to see that post you shouldn't add that information to his profile.

2. There is a problem when using your hack alongside this one (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=203705). If for example Kier open a new thread and mention Mike, after posting the thread Mike gets the notification so everything is OK until now. But then if Kier replies to his own thread mentioning Mike again (just as an example) the Doublepost Prevention hack will automatically merge both posts and Mike will get a new notification and at his profile you'll see this:

18:40 - Kier mentioned Mike in post Deleted Posts (deleted_posts phrase)

And the same thing will appear at Kier's profile.

I was using the 3.2.1 version, uninstalled 3.2.1 I installed the 3.2.0 version, still the same problem.This is working as intended if the member in question does not have permission to access the forum where the mention/quote/tag is displayed.

The reason why is that the time and labour cost involved in doing so massively outstrips any benefit gained. Our customers would prefer we spend 100 hours creating new features for our product than checking over every line of code to make sure every single '&' is picked up perfectly by W3C validity tools. None of the 'errors' showing have any impact on users of the site.

If I can make an analogy, would you rather be treated by the surgeon with the neatest stitching, or the one who has spent more hours practising actual surgery? Personally, I would prefer the latter.

I hope that explains why we do not see W3C validation as a high priority for our limited time.

We have modified some templates (sendmessage, sendtofriend...) for security reasons, someone has been using this functions to send thousand of spam emails from our server.

Marco.This is a bug in vBAdvanced, not User Tagging. Changing the usertag plugin in that way will have other ramifications, as we did have that change implemented in the past and received multiple bug reports. vBAdvanced should set the <base> tag to the forum directory in order for notification links to work correctly.
