I created this mod last week for an user who asked me to but since he bailed on me I decided to submit it here for everyone.
Anyway, this mod will allow you to prevent the bumping of old threads. You can choose yourself on how many days old a thread should be that you don''t want to be bumped.
You can exlude various groups and individual users that will not be affected from the bump limit. Like your staff or valued members for ex.
You can also exlude forums from the bump limit.
Installation:
To install the mod, upload the includes folder to your forum root folder and then import the no_bump_old_threads.xml file inside the mod package to Plugins&Products in the acp of your forum. Then go to the mod setting option: Don't bump old threads. It can be found on the left side of the Admin Panel, right above the Threads & Posts.
For moe info please have a look at the attached screenshots below.

Thank you!!!
I just wanted to update an old mod that closes thread after certain days :) But this is quite a better solution.

Can you add the feature like this >> https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=150341
Like you can just kill a topic and that topic will never bump up.

You are welcome :)
I agree, this is a handy option to have.

That is beyond the scope of this mod''s funcionality. Plus I don''t have much free time to spend on it. But try to ask at that mod''s thread or request it at the forums here and hopefully its author or someone else will upgrade/create a similiar mod for you.

There was a 3.x add-on that closed threads automatically after a specified length of time. That would make more sense to me. If you don't want people posting to a thread, it should be closed. That way everyone knows it's closed before going to the trouble of composing a response.

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=130738&page=9 it's working perfectly on 4.0.x am using it without any problem. and i agree with you no need for "error msg" while the threads still open!
but thanks any way for the coder

As I stated above I made this first as a paid request for someone who later bailed on me. Anyway, it is a matter of personal taste and liking, someone wants to prevent posting at all at the old threads, someone else wants to have them closed instead.

My favorite 3.x solution was a mod that gave a clear warning on old threads but still allowed users to post if they clicked a checkbox stating something like "I'm aware this is an old thread"
That way when there is that thread that someone has relevant information on, they can still post it, but people don't accidentally bump threads without realizing they're really old.
I do like the per forum and group options of this mod though.

Depends really what type of board you have, what the topics are. I have paid and non payed usergroups. Payed are exempt, can bump/add to old thread, non cant after 180 days.
1. encourages members to start new threads 2. encourages members to join payed group
works well for me anyways

Installed and working good but is not what i need it, if the mod just let the user post the thread but not letting to bump it will be great :(
Anyway thanks for the mod :D

Is this based off of when the thread was created only? Like the original poster edited their post, would the timer be based on that. What about replies? If someone replied would that set the timer to restart?

This is based of the time of the last post in the thread.

Nice mod. I wish it was just a warning though, like this one:
