Your own advice is kinda wrong..
Quoted from the thread Lynne linked to:
If you have an important reason to have your name changed, please contact one of our administrators in PM.

That thread is wrong. I PM'd Marco once and got a no. So, the thread itself needs updating, because nobody gets a name change now.

Marco obviously didn't think your reason was urgent or important enough.

Just out of curiosity, why this strict policy on username change?

Considering every member here is also a forum administrator, IMHO this is the last question to ask in this site. :)
As you know vbulletin does not allow usernames changes on user end and username can only be changed by admins manually. If you run a site with say 20.000 members and go easy on username changes, you'll end up with A LOT OF work as an admin. While registering to a forum, members should learn there is no username change and no account removal as a general principle. If exceptions occur, this is kind of site admin, not a right on user end. :)

With only 8 Posts why not just register a new user name, the one you want.

Reasons could range to:
* Username appearing in search results.
* Just wanting a name change
Using your real name as your username is not recommended, and usually this is reserved to staff.

Yes it is. You rarely see ordinary non staff here on vb.org and .com using their real name for their username.

I asked to change my username to my real name close to a year ago, and never heard a thing.
Guess I have to be a staff member to get a name change :(

That is not entirely true if you do some code editing you can give moderators who can view user profiles ability to change names among other things.

You have a real name profile field for that ;)

Spey, lol i'd just keep out of it. Since its already been answered by Lynne. Just because staff use their real name doesn't mean members or (customers) can't use theirs also. Heheh.

Although using a real name, or website name, as username is not recommended it is also not limited to staff members.
A real name is not recommended for privacy reasons, even if you do not see the need for privacy when registering. Once posted in the internet, your real name will never go away anymore, even not after a name change as there are also sites that keep historic versions of websites.
Using a website, or company, name is not recommended as this might change in the future and for various reasons the site where you have registered may not be able or will not allow for username changes.
