Yeah but wouldn't it drop immediately because all traffic stopped?
I'm just wondering.

Would it be possible to have a lower trigger level that temporarily disabled search options?

Is this only for Unix servers?
maybe an idea would be to have it close after it hits so many members logged in...that way it would work for windows servers too as it seems to do nothing for me and I'm on a windows server.
Cheers

How high should we set it?
You can ask your server admin for maximum server load allowed.
I have 3.x version but it was never released. I'll post it later in 3.x category.
Edit: 3.x version released here:

.
Sounds great, thanks :D
Would it be possible that it logs the times when the forum is closed by this script? Would be nice to see when this happens. My webhosts' logfiles are unreadakble

Excellent mod already using it!
Excuse me the dumb question but ,the server load is the percent of the use ? i put 10 and the forum use 14, so i put 15 and i dont know if that too high or what...i dont wanna the forum keep been unable for too little ,i would like this too happen just when is like 80% use or something like that.
Thank's in advanced!
For the comment of AliMadkour , i didnt have seen that options , but that one keep checking the forum for a period of time , that could charge the server more , in change this just tell you that is too high.

I am still at a loss why anyone would need this? If you have an overload of traffic, or some other unknown problems, then this does not give you a solution and fix your unlying problems...if you have that much traffic that you have to close your forum, and boot everyone off, then why have a forum? it is obvious you need to upgrade your server, if your forum has to shut down due to a resource issue, then get it fixed...this mod that shuts off your forum does not fix any issues at all...why would I want my forum to shut down
even for a second? get your problems fix, rather then looking for an excuse just to shut your forum off....fixes nothing...
It really looks bad to your members if they try to reach your forum to get a noice..."We are offline..." they are probably
thinking you are pretty cheap, or you are just another unreliable forum because you cannot keep your forum online....

I get this error:
Warning: file_exists() [function.file-exists]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/proc/loadavg) is not within the allowed path(s): (/home/xxxx:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:/tmp) in [path]/includes/class_bootstrap.php(122) : eval()'d code on line 9
Any help?
Regards.
I have a feeling this might happen to me, so let me go ahead and download this now!

First, thanks for any many great mods Valter.

Not so. I set it to 2 and if we become busier, VIP members and above can come in while the freeloaders and guests wait until resources go down to respectable levels.
It's an encouragement for people to subscribe to some premium membership.
Now, Valter, in 4.1.11 this seems to not work. I assign my MODs (usergroup 5,7,plus many other VIP forums) and they get the busy message when the server is over the set load.
Does it not work in 4.1.11?

An option to just turn off search when load is too high would be nice =)

I would like to turn this off for registration pages (so encouraging people to sign up during high server load to avoid getting blocked) - anyone got any ideas?

If you go into 'VSa - Server Overload Permissions' plugin and surround the PHP code with this if statement.
if($_SERVER["SCRIPT_NAME"] != '/register.php')
{
//rest of the plug in code goes in here
}
Users will still be able to register while the forum is closed for guests :up:

why doesnt this close the forums for everybody?
why close the forums? just redirect them to a page that refreshes ever 3 minutes and xfers them when the load is down...IF they are a guest.
