Will template changes go away with upgrade to vb3.8.5?

basic question I know, but as I bought license when version was 3.8, this is my first upgrade...

So will I lose the template changes I made in the template itself (not via plugins) when I upgrade?

Depends on what templates require reverting after the upgrade and which ones you've edited. We can't really say, since there could be different templates that need a revert.
