Hello,
I use the Don Kuramura Stylevar visual dictionary for the Style Editions, same for the CMS and Blogs.
I recommend you to read it.

To tell you truth, I needed to change all of mine. I went to the Admin Panel, Style Manager, and on my default template, I used the drop down to change "All Options" to "StyleVars" and went carefully through the list, making changes and checking each one on my forum. The names of the variables are somewhat less than intuitive so, unless you are able to find a list of what they are somewhere, you need to check each change as you make it. I am still missing one, but my forum users are mostly happy with the new look. Plan on spending at least a day if you have to use the trial and error method.

styles and templates >style manager > default style > stylevars > forum header background .............for the bar above each different section you'll need to change as well.
The main background color will be located as follows......
styles and templates >style manager > default style > stylevars > common > body_background
Find yourself proper html color codes and have at it, you'll soon be finding yourself spending hours, days , and even weeks customizing your forum :) Enjoy
I suggest if your going to start changing these, that you snatch up the PDF that has been so kindly written, PDF Stylevars guide (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/entry.php?2398-StyleVar-Visual-Dictionary-for-Forum-Blog-and-CMS-(PDF-Documents))
